I have to cut out some holes in mdf 5/8,  I have made the templets.  I am not sure what copy ring and router bit combo to use.  Any help would be appreciated.

Since you already have the pattern, why not just use a pattern bit (with bearing on top or bottom to suit your template) and cut the hole directly? Pattern bit is 1:1 with your template so there's no offset to contend with. If your pattern has in some way allowed for bushings/copy rings for the diameter of the hole, then that's a different story.

Nate, the size ring and bit used is determined by a number of things. First you need to decide on a bit, the kind of stock and its thickness, are yo concerned with tear out or producing a certain radii for the corners of the cutout. Once the bit has been selected they choose the appropriate copying ring to fit the router bit. When you have the bit ring combination you can they determine the size your template needs to be.

This information may not be of much help if you are unsure of what bit will produce the results you are looking for. If you give us a little more info on what you are trying to accomplish we could give you a far more specific advice.

What i ended up doing was to get the four larger rings for my OF 1000 and since my OF 1400 came with the insert ring to take PC rings, i have a couple of sets of PC rings for that router.  There are times when i have found it best to set up both routers.  It sometimes takes some measuring and calculating to figure out how to work with both so the bits in each router work out, but it is doable.

Brice has shown us an excellent example in his pictorial on using the MFS 400 and 700 pattern templates in the how to section.  If you read thru that, you will have a better idea of what you are doing.  Also, you will find yourself much deeper into the SS (Slippery Slope)

I believe Jerry Work has also discussed choice and use of bushings/bits combinations in either his MFT or MFS manual.
