12, 15 or 18 Volts?

Hay All.

My name is Ari and I leave in Brasília, Brazil. I've been around this fabulous community since 2008 but this is my first post.

My first Festool toll is arriving this week, a Domino XL. But I'm deciding about a cordless drill. I've used Makitas every thing 18 volts. I'm very used to impact drivers but for small jobs I'm considering a Fastool drill driver.

Electronic torque control is my option this time. My question is about a future platform. I want to maintain the same voltage on the Festool drills and other cordless equipment. For my application, 12 volts is fine but to keep a "system" 15 or 18 volts wold be more interesting? What voltage Festool has more equipment?

Please help me solve it...

Sorry for my English and I hope you understand my question !

Best regards

Ari Cunha

If you're looking to possibly purchase more than one battery tool for the "system", the T or C 15 would probably be the choice for you. With the upcoming release of the Ti15, which you can purchase without batteries and use both the impact and C or T drill. Also if the carvex is ever released out this way, there was supposed to be a battery operated version of that as well which I believe was going to be 15v as well. Aside from that, all of the drills are awesome, depending on the size of what you would prefer to hold and the applications that you will use them for!

Best of luck!

Bob

Obviously it depends on the type of drilling you do. I find the Festool 12v to be far stronger than other 12v drills. I would recommend going the 15v route though. If you need the 18v great but if don't I would save the on the weight and money. I have one 18v that doesn't get used much.

The Ti15 is available only in 15V and there are both 15 and 18V models of the Carvex in the EU atleast.

Also the C-drill is available only in 12 and 15V but not 18V whereas the T-drills are available in all three voltages.

The syslite to my knowledge will accept any voltage battery from 12 to 18V (I recall reading this in the Syslite FAQ thread)

The CXS uses it's own battery type so it's not interchangeable with anything else.

Therefore is you want to future-proof your battery selection you should go with a 15V (14.4V) model of any tool and there will be a model of every battery operated Festool tool that uses the C/T/Ti/PS type battery.

Hi Ari,

Welcome and thanks for delurking  [smile]

Something to note is that the Festool drill line allows for lower voltage batteries to be used on higher voltage drills. EX- a 12v C12 battery can be used on the C15 drill or T18.   Not sure if this will apply to Carvex or Ti15.  I would think, yes , but I don't know for sure.

Here is another thread on battery compatibilities including LiOn and NiCd.  Battery Compatibilities

The 15V will probably provide for the most flexibility for use in other Festools.

The Carvex is NAINA, I wonder if that also applies to South America (Brazil)?  [unsure]

I love my T15 and think it is better than my Makita LXT 18v driver/drill in every way BUT if you have a Makita LXT Brushless impact driver and buy the Festool impact, you will probably not be happy. Since you wouldn't actually want a Festool impact, battery compatibility isn't an issue.

I haven't seen the new brushless Makita drill drivers but can't imagine them being nearly as good as a Festool drill.

The work light uses any of the slide on batteries so that isn't a problem, either. It is 7.2v internally.

Bob, thanks a lot!! Very clear!!

Holzhacker, for big jobs, I have used 18V from other brand. I need more torque control. 15V will be fine

Very good Reiska, many thanks!

Thanks Seth! Loud and clear! I'm feeling welcome here!!

RonWen, all Brazilian Festool importers deal via Festool Germany. That's a good thing for us.

Greg, yes I do have a LTX 18V Brushless impact driver and I love it. I'll stay os Festool 15V line. Now it's clear for me.

I thank you all very much for the valuable opinions. Decision is made with your help guys. Tomorrow I will order a T15 kit.

Thank you all!!

Hey All

Thanks for your opinions, Festool T15 has landed... Marvelous.

Powerful, very fast, well balanced and the eTorque is very precise.

Now I have a powerful drill with delicate screwing. When  hard screwing is needed, it's there too.  [thumbs up]
