1400 router speeds

Hi
I have a 1400 router and need to run a large bit rated at 16,000 max RPM. I am unable to find a speed chart that relates the 1-6 settings with real RPM. Does such a table exist somewhere???

Sorry if this has been covered and I was unable to find.

I honestly haven't had mine out of the box yet, but I'm under the impression they top 22,000 rpm flat out.

According to the specs for the OF1400 the rpm goes from 10000 to 22500. So if the increment of the electronics is linear in 6 steps you could expect each increment to be about 2500 rpm. 

1 - 10000
2 - 12500
3 - 15000
4 - 17500
5 - 20000
6 - 22500

If it's non-linear, then who knows what. I've never seen such charts been published.

You could always just run it at "1" to play it safe.

This is a good question though; I've often wanted a chart like that for some of the other tools I have that use the generically-labelled speed dials.

Mate, that's not safe! Running a bit too slow is almost as bad as running one too fast.

There are some general guidelines for speed settings in the manual based on router bit diameter and material. I will contact Germany to see if I can get some specific information about speed settings as they related to RPM.

You could always upgrade to the OF 2200, which has a label on the side of it with the speed settings and related RPMs.  [big grin]

It's linear and we measured it with a laser tachometer a little while ago. There's never been an official word from Festool though.

They're a constant step speed, so on the OF 1400, approximately...

10,000 RPM      1
12,400 RPM      2
14,800 RPM      3
17,200 RPM      4
19,600 RPM      5
22,000 RPM      6
