Hi all
My name is John and it’s the first time on the forum
Could anybody tell me if the 1400watt 110 volt rites is powerful enough for doing mitred worktops 40mm thick in chipboard or indeed solid wood ?

Yes more details would help;

What bit size,
What bit profile/pattern

Can't you do it in multiple pass? to me 40mm is pretty thick for a one pass process. Perhaps your application is more suitable using a router table. The OF 1400 a very power full router based on it's weight and versatility. If you are doing some kind of profile a shaper comes in mind but yet the price jump a bit  [eek]

IMO at 40mm I don't see any problem if you do straight edge routing.

Hi John,

I have the 240v OF 1400 router, I have done a few mitred worktops with it. It will do them but if you are a kitchen fitter doing them all the time you probably want something bigger.

The solid wood worktops I have used have all been square edged so I just cut them with tracksaw and butt them together.

I use the 1400 to cut 40mm worktops on a regular basis. I just make sure I do 3 passes and it really has no issue at all. Doing 3 passes gives the blade a longer life as well so no hardship to me. I am not going to be changing it for anything else, doesn't seem worth it to me.
