I've just heard from a reliable source who got the information from the latest pricing guide apparently that 2015 will bring:
  • A replacement for the CXS called a TXS which will be a more traditional design
  • 5.2ah batteries
  • 2.6ah CXS batteries
  • A new style chuck
  • Lots of accessories, to numerous to list so he didn't bother telling me :(

Apparently May/June is when to expect new releases but some may come in January I was told.  This would make sense with some posts I've read on the FOG about the Centrotec Set being harder to find and the CXS stock running low and no longer available in a couple of places.

The new TXS will not accept CXS batteries so I'm not too sure why they would bring out a 2.6ah CXS battery?

Most of the drill changes are to do with the batteries.

Finally, I'm sorry to say still no sign of a 2mm brad point bit, I know some FOG members have had that on their wish list for a while now.

This is what I've been told so we will see what happens.  He said he was allowed to tell me as it was in the new pricing guide so if you know somebody who has that then you can also find out.  Info from a UK source.

"The new TXS will not accept CXS batteries so I'm not too sure why they would bring out a 2.6ah CXS battery?"

Festool may have switched suppliers for their battery cells, or the supplier of their battery cells tweaked the design or chemistry to provide more power. Since Festool is committed to providing batteries for drill models even once they've been discontinued, the new batteries simply use the newer better cells. At least that would be my guess.

Interesting! Assume the TXS model will be the "T" handle version. And based upon the comments of a CXS 2.6ah battery, the CXS will live on - and hope the new battery will be compatible with the CXS (only because I just bought a CXS set within the last 30 days). I love this drill but a "T" handle in a XS version is also intriguing.

Based on ElCabong's post, it just occurred to me that the XS in CXS could stand for Xtra-Small. Since it's German I kinda doubt that, but do any of our Deutschlander's know what it DOES stand for?

Guessing here but:

C(entrotec)
X(maybe refering to small size weight or battery powered?)
S(chrauber = drill)

Malte

The C and the T always has referred to the shape of the handle, I'm not sure why you think this would break that mold?

How about:
C = Handle Style
X = 10 (volt)
S(chrauber = drill)

Makes perfect sense to me...

I have another theory.

C = C type drill.

XS = eXtra Small.

Edit: I see this is what Wow originally asked about. I think he's correct. In Germany, and the rest of Europe, XL, L, M, S and XS are used for sizes all the time. S for Schrauber makes no sense as they call it a Bohrschrauber.  X = 10 makes even less sense to me.

Does PD and PDC stand for Percussion drill and Percussion Drill Cordless?

It seems a very reasonable assumption to me. Very often Festool tools are named with some German words, but I can not think of any German words that would make sense with PD and PDC. In German it is named a "Schlagbohrmaschinen" (Hit Drill Machine).

Since the release of the TSC I was hoping for a cordless mitre saw in 2015 :(

Come on Festool you know it makes sence. Nothing too elaborate, just quick and easy to setup with a quality cut.

It seems festool is late to the 5.2Ah party. A lot of the other makes have them already. They seem more streamlined than the festool batteries too. I played with the dewalt 5.2 combined drill at a recent tool show and my 4.2 Ah batteries on my new PDC seem more bulky. The dewalt 4.2Ah batteries are the same size and weight as their 5.2Ah versions. So the case is the same just different cells.

Yeah, the Festool pack has never been the most streamlined.

The other disappointing thing is the half capacity battery is the same physical size as the full capacity? [blink]

Slim packs are all I use on my Milwaukee stuff, much rather have the smaller size and less weight and swap batteries more often, than to have the big brick hanging off the bottom.

I just googled festool txs and there is a picture of it on a Dutch tool website, unsurprisingly looks just like a CXS but with a T style handle.

Just had a look too, they also have the cordless 18v as standard with the 5.2ah battery and the txs with the 2.6ah as mentioned by OP, been toying with the cxs but think I'd prefer a T style so will hold off for now.

Any chance of posting the picture?  I couldn't find it.
