21 questions with the CXS

I am very excited for this drill!  Very interested on battery life and price also. I use the C-12 NIMH and the Li-Ion T-12...looking for that nice little go to drill!!!!  May can't come soon enough!!!

Hey warner, we had the little bosch on one of our installs, it was a joke it went back to the dealers straight away! I have been looking at one of these for cabinet installs (kitchen fitting) would you reccomend it? Does it perform much better than anything else comparable on the market? Its seems there are only a few reviews out there at the moment but i would love to hear a contractors opinion from everyday use...

My opinion is that I would just as soon see Festool not worry about cheaper tools so anyone can afford them.  That is one reason why I prefer them, because of the quality. Too many companies go the way of making them affordable and then we get Cheap tools.  I don't want cheap tools that don't last. If I can't afford them I don't buy them, or wait till I have the funds to buy them.
  Festool continue to produce good quality tools and give me great service and let other companies produce for the rest!  Thank you

Yeah, what he said. I'd rather save and buy what I know is quality and works, than have a manufacturer decide to go for a wider market and their quality I trusted go all to hell...not to mention
move to China. [mad]

Like I said, I don't like compact drills but, this is probably going to be the best one that I have used or owned.

Just used it today for hanging some TV's.

I can't really attest to battery life, I have only had to charge 2 battery's in the last few months.

I don't know which compact Bosch but the older 12v(10.8v) are very weak I have done a video test on fog showing power difference between the Bosch and makita drill the makita kicks ! But the makita has poor batterie life if your using it alot you properly would have to buy a new batterie before the end of the year as a few of my mates have found out.  I have been told the newer Bosch impact and driver have more power with the same batteries I don't know if that's true.

I have had a feel and a little play with the CXS it's odd how a drill can feel so light when you first pick it up. It has alot power for it's size I just don't know how long the batterie lasts. It's not that expensive really £209+ if you compare it to other brands they are like £120-£160.  

BUT remember with festool you get

You have an angle chuck which makes it brilliant for getting into even smaller places. So you are saving money by not needing to buy a cordless angle drill.

So really the CXS works out to be the same price   CXS = Driver drill+ angle drill =£209

I own the T15 so I see no need to buy CXS as i have no issue with the weight of my drill so no benefits for me getting the CXS but if you don't own C or T drills and don't wanna spend a lot the CXS is a good first choice but if you can afford i would recommend the T15

Hey jmb, i had a little play with it at my dealers and wasnt too impressed, granted the festool warranty is fantastic as most other drills ive had died after 2 years, i currently use the panasonic EY 7540 14v 3.3ah impact driver and panasonic EY 7441 drill both are fantastic tools really impressed had them just over a year, i looked at the t15 drill you mentioned at my dealer and was surprised how heavy it is, im thiking of getting a festool drill soon just out of lust rather than need and i think the c12 li would suit my needs best, i think if i were to get the cxs i would always want the c12, hopefully we can get some good reviews soon and see if this baby can perform on the job...

I had a chance to play with this drill today and it is definitely on my list to get when it becomes available.  In my opinion, it will be a great tool for installation work and for driving pocket hole screws.  I already have a C12 and this new drill is quite a bit smaller and and lighter and appears to have plenty of power.  I was told the price should be $225 for just the drill and $275 for the kit.

Right, ive just ordered one of these to try out for myself, mainly because i have no right angle drill and i may aswell go this route and get two for the price of one, if you like, i allready have 2x14.4v 3.3 amp panasonics that i use mainly but i want this for kitchen installation and light duties, i have a medium kitchen installation starting thursday and will be using this for the job and will report back on its performance for driving screws,drilling and battery life. looking forward to this!.

Ya me too, I plan on snagging one once they're available here. Would like to see some comparison vids of it driving screws and drilling in comparison to a standard 18v and to competitors in its class. I've been using the wee 10v drill fairly extensively in film, probably over using them as i have yet to own one that has lasted longer than a year. The reason I like these compact guys is their light weight and portability. They fit in your pouch, if you're so inclined to wear one, heck they even fit in your pocket though the C handle design on this model will undoubtedly prevent that, belt clip to make up for it though. Compact drills are great on sets and locations as we're mainly driving 1 1/4 screws into pine and can quite often be on a ladder doing work or a scissor lift. Studios can get rather large and you can find yourself running all over doing jobs, if you've put your drill down cause it was bugging you hanging off your belt and now have to go find it, it's a waste of time. So ya compacts work well for me and I'm hoping this one lasts.
