First step is to admit I have a problem. I am a festoolaholic.
The one tool I hardly ever use is a jig saw. I have 2, 1 crapsman and 1 porter cable.
Well I had to use the porter cable the other day and I was like a big baby. Cranky Cranky. Good tool makes nice cuts, powerful etc etc. BUT I COULDNT SEE THE LINE I WAS CUTTING DUE TO ALL THE SAW DUST IN FRONT OF THE BLADE. Now I am a spoiled baby. I hate dust.
So I was watching a used trion on ebay. It sold for $257. Plus $34.50 shipping, came to $291.50
It had a few accesories with it, But you can buy it brand new for $280, no shipping.
Now what do I do, wait until I think I might need to use the jig saw again and then get one, or do I just keep buying into my addiction now.

already have ts55,ct mini,ct22,1080,domino.

Why stop just buy one.  ;D

A lot of buyers on eBay your just plain dumb. :P

I've watched some of those ebay Festool auctions too and I have to say, I don't get it. Most of the used tools that I've watched have gone for $10 or $15 less than they cost new when shipping is figured in.  ??? I don't know who these Mensa candidates are, but they are buying older used and in some cases obsolete tools for nearly what they cost new.  :o I guess this could be a good argument to use with your wife when buying Festools....." Honey I can buy this tool , use it for 5 or 6 years and sell it for $10 less than I paid for it. And when you figure in inflation....."  ;D

My wife really does not concern herself my with tool purchases as I do not concern myself with the 1 or 2 pairs of shoes she buys a year.

Actually mine doesn't either, my tongue was in my cheek when I said that.

Apparently she hasn't actually looked at the one or two Festool purchases (if more, we won't tell) that you have made.  Or, then again, maybe those are some really nice shoes.

Gary

dumb?

The way I read Gary's message was...

A lot of buyers on eBay are just plain dumb. :P

...meaning that some buyers pay more for a second-hand item (often from a private person with little come-back), than they would pay for a brand new item from an official dealer.

billybokay,

Before you get a Trion (I have both models), you might want to try it out first. You say you can't see the cut line with your current jigsaw due to dust. Well, With the Trion, you can't see it either with the dust shroud in place. If you remove it, you're back to square one (dust obscuring the line and ineffective dust collection).

I added a Bosch 1590 to my collection because it had a sawdust BLOWER to clear the area in front of the cut line (in addition to a couple other features I personally like over the Trion). I find it equal to the Trion in almost all respects (at least in my use).

There was a thread here on tips for using the Trion with the dust shroud in place.

Billy, I have a few jig saws, both bosch 1590 and the 1591, skil 4680 with laser and a couple of older black and decker models. I just recently purchased the trion PS 300 and I used it yesterday in my shop to cut some 3/4" birch ply and some 1/2" MDO. All I have to say is that this is by far the best saw I have used to cut holes and make dimension cuts. I own a few of the Festool tools and so far they have been great but this jig saw is by far the best I have ever owned for jig saws. I always thought the bosch were excellent saws and they are but this trion is a bit above the bosch IMHO a better tool. I could see the front of the blade without obstruction. No vibration to the saw at all. Dust collection was awesome and it moved with ease no matter what direction I was pushing the saw. I am glad I made this purchase...

I don't use a jigsaw that much.  I have a small bandsaw with 6 inch thickness capacity.  I tried Bosch's top model, Festool's and Makita's back-to-back, and chose the Makita because of price, relatively small size, the way it fit my hand and its built-in LED light which helps me follow the line.  A dust collection accessory tube works OK, but not great.  Cuts have been excellent thus far, but I do not have much need to cut materials more than 5/4 thick.  And I can use Festool blades if needed.  I have used the back edge of a guide rail to make long straight cuts when my TS 55 was not nearby.
