Hi. I have a homemade boom arm attached to the wall behind my MFT and it works very well. I made mine out of central vac pipe and fittings as I had some leftover material from a long ago install. Before buying my ct36 I had a shopvac and a dust deputy under my table. I used the ivac switch and simply ran a short extension cord up the boom arm and plugged my plug it cord into the extension cord. Worked like a charm, the only shortcoming of it was I had to use a smaller bucket so the Dust Deputy would fit under the table. Now that I have the ct36 I do much the same but am not using the DD anymore so just an extension cord up the boom arm and a plug it cord attached to the boom arm and hose...in both instances I had to switch to manual mode to say use the vac for cleanup, or if I was say using non powered tool like the Kreg jig. I am sorry I am not at home right now or I could send you a picture. It's a pretty simple solution but if you need a pic I can try and put one up when I get home from work.

this is my current setup but also added led lights to the boom arm not shown

iv been thinking about doing  some kind of piped in system for my power tools.
I am planning to buy the axminister  63mm clear pipe set. run that around the shop  with blast gates at convenient locations and one for the boom arm.
then I would run a ring of sockets  around to each blast gate. . then plug the end into the vac. I would put a fused spur to trip if 2 tools were turned together.
im looking for different coloured sockets so that I know they are different to the other ones. I can then plug in a light for the times I use a 110v tool

You have the hoses going into the wrong ports of the DD - they should be swapped over. The vacuum should be attached to the very top and the hose going to the machines connected to the side.

Does it work like that?

I've always liked the appeal of the Plug-It and dust hose getting bundled together for ease of use. Since they both travel straight to the CT, it's a very smart choice. However, for those who use a staged separator, how do you deal with the destinations being different? For purposes of this scenario, I'm talking about solutions that aren't directly attached to the CT like the Ultimate Dust Deputy where separating the cord and hose for a couple feet at most at the end isn't an issue.

Perhaps I'm overthinking things, but I'm trying to improve my shop, and a boom arm-type setup would benefit me greatly. I don't have a CT, but a Ridgid and a 30g trash can that have served me very well in all areas except space. I don't want to give up the volume that the can provides for the bigger machines. I think that perhaps having both the vac and the CT might be overkill for my small shop, but it is a consideration.

I have several vacs in my workshop but the one that is used the most and does what I need the best is the CT so do not put off that decision too long.

Peter,

You are correct, the hoses are not correctly connected.  It probably works fine, maybe not as efficient as if connected the correct way.

hmm it works but you guys are right..ill swap it! but everything spins in there like it should lol. i just realized i had it the way you guys said it...when i moved things around in the garage i wasnt aware that it was installed incorrectly! [eek]

At least your "Festool Fan" sticker can be seen so that is okay !

I too have one stuck on the side of one of my workshop containers - we tend not to do bumper stickers over here.

Hi Miko,

Well done - did I miss it in the video?

You had a busy day it seems.

Great workshop.
