4 mm dominos

Hello all.
I bought a Domino DF500 a few weeks ago and have really enjoyed using it.
Today I was mitering some 1x2 stock and deiced to a try using the 4 mm dominos.4x20
I noticed the depth stop on the domino did not have a 10 mm setting, so I used the 12 mm setting.
I also used used the trim stop for alignment. When I cut the first mortis it was very shallow. maybe 3 mm.

After some though I realized the 4 mm cutter is shorter than the other cutter.
So the question is:
Do you have a procedure you use for setting the depth on the 4 mm cutters?
Is this relevant with the other cutters?

In the end I used the 20 mm depth and the joint turned out great.

I have been very happy with the domino and look forward to using it any chance I get, along with my other Festools. It is a great system.

I did the same as you using the 20 setting . Worked out fine so I guess I did it right .  [eek]  Be interesting to see what others are recommending .

If I remember correctly you guys have done it right.  The 4mm domino was not part of the original design and usage and to make it easier to some degree that is why the bit was shortened.  Keep doing it and show us some stuff!

Is the 4 mm bit too thin to make the same length as the other bits?
Would it make sense to keep the cutter the same length and make the shaft longer? I would assume it could "bottom out" and cause some burning, but most likely it would be hidden in the joint.

I believe in the supplemental manual for the Domino 500 it states using the 20mm setting is a necessity for the 4 mm cutter.
This manual is well worth reading and can be downloaded from this site easily.

Yes, the 4mm bit is designed to use the 20mm setting.
