What is the difference between the two Festool 5mm router drill bits (for use with the LR 32), 491064 and 491066?

Thanks

Thanks guys!  That answers my question.

Dave

And creates a question for me, when or on what material would you want to use either one? I plan to drill holes in nice melamine for kitchen cabinets, and probably some plywood for some shelf unit.s

Just to clarify:
The brad point leaves a relatively flat bottomed hole that would be used for shelf pins, dowels, euro screws for mounting plates, drawer slides etc.
The pointed tip version is for throughboring. The point reduces splintering and tearout on the exit. FYI, the LR 32-SYS has one on of each.

Hi guys,

I have been drilling holes for 5mm shelf pins in melamine with 5mm steel drill bit. I've used this technic for a while now with no chipping. But it seems my melamine suppliers have changed something with there product and the chipping now is terrible. I am now looking at the Festool 491066 Dowel Drill Router Bit and it looks like that could fix this issue.

The question.......has anyone had experience using this router bit on melamine??? If so what are your thought???

That's the one I use, gives chip free holes even in textured brittle melamine faced boards

I've used both 491066 and 491064 bits with good success.  The 491064 seems hold up a little longer in my experience.

Hi all,

Just an update on the Festool 491066 Dowel Drill Router Bit. I used it the other day to drill about 300 holes for shelve pins in very brittle melamine. I am very happy with the results the last hole I drilled is just as perfect as the first. CNC quality in the palm of my hand. THANK YOU FESTOOL!
