How do you mount the plywood flush to the surface of the profile?

See picture of the upper left area on the kapex workstation.....

This does not exactly answer your question but it may help. I was working with plywood and the 1515 profile over the weekend, I wanted panels that were inset on the sides/rear of a cart and proud on the top like an MFT top.

The slot in the 1515 series is 8mm, so each of the other 2 legs of that profile are 15mm, or near enough. If you were using 3/4" nominal plywood (18-19mm), and wanted it to be flush on the outside/top, you could route a 3-4mm rabbit in the edge to make it 15mm thick, then screw an 8mm strip to the underside (rabbit) and fit it into the slot.

Hope this makes sense.

I love it Richard!  Gonna file this away for a cutting table in my future.

Thanks. There are more photos and some video, planning to post it once I have time to clean everything up. Look for a thread dedicated to the build.

Since in my mind you are the 8020 expert, I have a quick question for you.  Is there a series profile which could be used in conjunction with the MFT connectors?  Basically I would like to connect my MFT/3 to a homemade MFT that I am planning.

Gotta say I wouldn't be upset if a truck dumped a load of that 1515 profile outside my house [wink]

Not an expert on anything, I tend to learn only enough about something to be dangerous & then get bored (think ADD)... but thank you.

I am not aware of anything that would adapt the MFT connectors to 8020 without some machining. A while back I was fiddling with some little brackets that fit 1515 and dropped into the V-slot on the MFT/3, but it never went beyond the head-scratching stage. I did discover that 1515 drops over the edge of the MFT extrusion and sits ~0.50" below the top:

The photos in my earlier post show the plywood top of my new cart, which is coincidentally ~0.50" proud of the 8020. It might require a little shimming but I guess you could combine these 2 ideas and connect the 8020 and MFT/3 together somehow.

Never got further than fiddling around with it. Currently I use a version of this setup:

The plan is to replace the MFT/3 with an 8020 MFT cart soon so I probably won't be spending much more time on adapting 8020 to the MFT/3.

Post whatever you come up with, I would be interested in seeing it.

Richard ,
can you detail the square holey stock used as a sliding / adjustable leg . Is that 10 series inside that square holey stuff  ?  ?
what hardware is that ?  ?
That's just what I need to do , I'm building out feed table with rollers & want to used them on mt big band saw & then use them on a SawStop TS as well
I need a way to have a way to be able to adjust the levels .

Mike,

The large tube is 8020 "Holey Tube" (HT), 1.5" OD and 0.125" wall, so it's nominally 1.25" ID or ~ 32mm. The inside extrusion is their 3030 profile, 30mm square. The handle is M8-1.25 with a 8mm t-nut (although you can also use 5/16"-18) that fits the 3030 slot. It locks down tight, works great. The bottom foot is a 5/16" swivel tapped into the end of the extrusion, I think they came from McMaster.

I grabbed some more of this off eBay today because I need more of these legs for the 8020 MFT cart being built:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/80-20-Aluminum-1-5-x-1-5-HT-Series-Holey-Tube-w-Holes-9701-x-40-5-Long/331104825340?

I also scored a deal on the pivot plates, planning to make the legs knock down (swivel) to make them easier to store:

[attachthumb=#]

The ones I wanted are on the right, 90 degree straight pivots, but I got the entire lot for the normal price of 2 of those plates. I also snagged some of the hardware for pivot brackets:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/8020-Inc-15-Series-T-Handle-Kit-for-Pivot-Bracket-2799-N/370790263068?

I plan on rounding the end of the HT 180 degrees, then using the shoulder bolts in the first (pivot) hole and the carriage bolt/knob in the second hole/radiused slot, then the leg will swing up against the top extrusion when not in use.

Hope this makes sense. I am working on the basic cart this weekend & taking some video/photos as I go. When time allows I plan to edit it and post a build log with more detail.
