Everyone is urged to read the header that pops up at the top of the page.  Festool will be sending has sent an email to all forum members soon

Peter

Depending on where the pixel, or byte originates, there will be a tariff on FOG posts, correct?

Might be a country specific thing? I can't see any header and didn't get an email.

For those who did not see the email, here is a screenshot (cropped) of what I received.  Make sure you have your correct email in your profile and also write down your login information including your password.

Other than that you will have to wait and see.

Thank you! (Haven’t received FOG related e-mails/ notifications in ages …) (Edit: changed e-mail address over to another provider, seems to have worked fine - just in case.)

Kind regards,
Oliver

I'm grateful for upgrade, but since the look and function will look remarkably similar, I assume the migration is not to XenForo.  [sad]

I am reminded of when my old photo hosting site was sold (PhotoBucket).  They said “no changes”, but immediately said that posting on forums was “commercial enterprise” and started charging for those images.

Ransomed, actually. They wanted fees for all hosted photos that were used for forums.

A woman was logging posts about her conversion of a van (Mercedes?) to a camper over a period of several months.  I suspected she intended to publish an edited version of the posts.  But suddenly she would have to pay thousands to keep the images intact.  They were not one-time fees, but annual fees based on the number of images on forums.

I assume she had the images in her computer, but a monumental amount of work to re-create the thread (which she never did).

I switched to IMGUR from PhotoBucket.  So, despite assurances, I’m a “wait-and-see” guy.

And I did not get that letter.

I switched from that (un-named) site to FOG because the threads had a tendency of becoming nasty-bitchy.  I longed for the pastoral civility of a site like FOG.  I hope they don’t ruin it.

The Harmony Central s/w migration (2009) by Jive Software was the worst I ever witnessed. Any other survivors here? It decimated several of my favorite online spaces and more than a decade of archived reviews. They never recovered. Thinking about it, I don't think I've ever seen a UI migration done well. But I'm sure we'll be fine. [big grin]

If it squeezes text down to a centerlane to make room for ads, well... It was lovely while it lasted!

Thanks for posting the screenshot [member=1674]Peter Halle[/member] as I have also NOT received an email from Festool and I've yet to see a header pop up at the top of the page.  [scratch chin]

It may be worthwhile to mention to "The Festool Team" that there are others on the FOG that have also NOT received the notifications. I can only surmise that some additional steps need to be taken or looked at because the email & header thing should have been automatic.

I got the email notice yesterday morning.
Looking forward to the improvements but have to admit I was a bit distracted by other news.

Glad this thread isn’t called “a fork in the road”.

Regardless of email announcements, I am looking forward to seeing the new FOG site.  Hopefully it will be more functional, allow things like "liking a post", easier to upload images, etc.

Bob

Thanks, Matt!

I didn't receive the email either, but that is because I had not updated my profile to replace my email address.

Great, but I finally got the "insert the photo" thing down, and now this???

Well, if it makes inserting photos easier, I will be happy.

I checked this afternoon and I did not have any messages, and I do not see any banners on my browser.

Now, I'm going to plan a trip for Monday-Tuesday so I'll have something to do!

That's precisely the reason I stopped being a very active member on cnczone. This forum is so much more civilised, and the members provide so much information, help and support without added drama. This and the Australian Woodworkers Forum are probably the two best forums I've ever utilised.
