It says to "connect a residual current operated device in series before the tool" when cutting metal.
What on earth does that mean?

There is a post coming down next to the blade, on the left side when facing the saw.
What is that for?  The manual does not refer to it.

Connect it to a GFCI  is what it means.

If the metal you are cutting becomes electified, it can conduct through the blade and become a user hazard.

I believe the post you are referring to is part of the blade locking mechanism. As you actuate the blade unlocking lever, that post acts as a cam that pushes against the spring loaded blade retention chuck, releasing the blade.

Stop reading the instructions and you won't have to worry about such things.....lol
