A double-dovetail box, seemingly impossible

I thought was very cool. It's a box that instead of tails on one side and pins on the other, actually has tails on both:

The secret, of course, is to rip the sides of the box into segments and build it like a log cabin:

One aspect I hadn't thought of is that all the joinery edges slope to the outside, naturally shedding water. That's why some of these buildings are still standing today.

He used a bandsaw with a sloping base to cut the joinery. Pretty cool, too bad he did it with crappy wood.

I think this could also be achieved by steaming/boiling and compressing the tails of one board before assembly, then allowing the wood to expand back to its natural state.
