Thanks a million to everyone who has taken a few moments out of their day to write such kind words - it's truly humbling. Rest assured that although the professional world no longer has Mr. B amongst its ranks - the FOG still does. You'll never fully rid yourselves of me. I'll be back at some point to show off whatever 'for-me' masterpieces I've managed to hack and throw together in between doing stuff for my kids. I'm also delighted to learn that
@Crazyraceguy is finally capitulating - we exchanged emails at length about the retirement topic during our 'grey import' collaboration awhile back

Good for you, buddy. If my future travels bring me anywhere near you, I'll get in touch so we can hook up for a few beers and bore everyone else in the bar senseless by nerd-talking about power tools all night.
Loading up the van and for the last time and driving away from that last-ever job was bittersweet to say the least - not helped by the fact that the client was a lady I'd worked jobs a quarter-century for. This one;
Here's the first of three pieces commissioned by a client for her wonderful 1850's house. I'm sorry I can't show you the fully built-up dresser - but the top section weighs 95kg (210 pounds) and I can't lift it :-\ Maybe a clever Photoshop member on here can weave his magic ..... It's ready to go apart from some gilded lettering which will be applied above the trefoils on the upper section pilasters. The heavily distressed/aged paint finish was as per the lady's request - 'Make it look like it's always been here'.
The basic specs;
Carcasses, shelves, other bits = 18mm MRMDF.
Rear facings...
She knew what was happening, and she presented me with a beautiful hand-tooled, leather-bound photo album of random (and completely unknown to me) pictures she'd taken of me working in her house over the last 25 years. I'd forgotten how young and devastatingly good-looking I once was

But she and I will stay in touch for sure. I'm sure that many pro's and ex-pro's on here will empathise with the fact that professional relationships with good people can often develop into solid friendships.
Thanks again to everyone for your kindness - you're the best.
