I have learned the truest meaning of a word from our UK friends - gobsmacked.

Last Friday I came home early to the wonderful surprise of having two freshly washed Golden Retrievers.  My wife was so excited that MacGyver had instantly jumped into the tub as soon as he knew it was bath time.  He then ran around as only a wet dog can.  By Saturday morning he was in the hospital.  I cooked special meals for him starting on Monday and unfortunately nothing would stay down.

Now he is no longer with us.  Hopefully he is in a better place and has a little boy to call master.  Hopefully he will continue to share his unconditional love and concern.  He did not suffer and we spent every minute we could with him.

His life was chronicled here but unfortunately most of the images were lost.  He endured the Fogtainer project and made several cameo appearances.  He sat on my lap and helped moderate at a time when moderation was more frequent.  He was there to take care of me when I was sick.  He loved Festool green.

If he was sitting on my lap right now he would be typing, or urging me to type the following:

1.  Life is short and unpredictable - don't put off things
2.  Strive to make someone's life a little better tomorrow
3.  Don't pee in public unless you are a dog.

He has an account here on the FOG.  I set it up as a testing account and nothing has ever been posted thru it.  I am sure that I will get responses in this thread and I would appreciate you tagging [member=58907]FOGdog[/member] in your posts.  I will deactivate it soon.

I can't do anything more for him now.  But I can share an image from this morning that I hope will project his teaching skills.  He had someone in training.  Let your good deeds lead.

Real sorry to hear that!  As a big time dog lover, I can share your pain as I've had my share of losses over the years.  Makes me thing of a phrase I've heard, "To us a dog is a [big] part of our lives, but to a dog, we are their entire lives."

So sorry to hear that Peter, my heart goes out to you and your wife! Sending much strength and comfort!

Rest in Peace [member=58907]FOGdog[/member] . Oh, and MacGyver, if you come across a golden called Berry, speaking with a funny accent, where you are now, he's a good boy too, go play with him.

Warm and comforting wishes, Peter!

Kind regards,
Oliver

So sorry for your loss Peter. At the risk of insulting anyone, Golden's are the best.

RIP [member=58907]FOGdog[/member]

Regards, Dick

So sorry to hear of your lost. I remember him thru the FOG when you got him and him helping you with the fogtainer.
Wow time flys.
Rick.

Hi Peter,

What a terrible message to read, I'm so sorry to hear this. Dogs (as cats or other pets) become often true family members. I'm sure [member=58907]FOGdog[/member] couldn't wish for better owners. Lost of strength to you and the misses! [member=58907]FOGdog[/member] RIP.

“Dogs’ lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you’re going to lose a dog, and there’s going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can’t support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion. There’s such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware it comes with an unbearable price. Maybe loving dogs is a way we do penance for all the other illusions we allow ourselves and for the mistakes we make because of those illusions.”
― Dean Koontz

No words can convey the intensity of love from or for a beloved dog.  My heart breaks for you and your wife, Peter.

"When a much-loved pet leaves, he takes a piece of our hearts with him.  He also lovingly leaves
a piece of his own heart with us to remind us of how much he loved us while he was here, and how
much he longs to be the one to greet us when we, in turn, go to The Rainbow Bridge."

- Zygmunt W. Hrozsmencko

RIP Fogdog...may the squirrelles be plentiful and up for a chase in your new home

Peter I’m so sorry for your loss. It is never easy when we lose our fur babies.

Sorry for your loss. When we lost our first dog, the vet sent us a card with the following lines.

grieve not,
Nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk
of me as if I were beside you there.

Sorry for your loss Peter, may [member=58907]FOGdog[/member] rest in peace.

My condolences Peter!  It’s never easy, but hopefully it’s a small comfort that he didn’t suffer and you didn’t have to make a heartbreaking decision.  I’ll take some of the sadness off your shoulders, remember him fondly and smile.

I am very sorry for your loss.  Dogs have been called Man's Best Friend for ages, and with good reason.

Do not wait too long to bring in another family member.  I waited about 4 years after I lost my previous dog to adopt  the dog I have now, and I knew as soon as he came home with me that delaying so long was a mistake.

Peter,

I'm so very sorry to hear of your loss.  I hope that memories of all the happy times with MacGyver will give you comfort when you miss him the most.  I have no doubt that you provided him with the best life possible and he loved you back as only a Golden Retriever can.

It's been a little over a year since we lost Scout and I swear that I still catch a glimpse of him roaming the house from time to time.  He was my angel in a dog suit.

I believe all dogs go to heaven because they are such a blessing on earth.

Godspeed [member=58907]FOGdog[/member]

Peter...I don’t know what to say... [crying] [crying] [crying]

I do think it’s really cool to have an account for MacGyver.

[member=58907]FOGdog[/member] may you RIP.

MacGyver, Samantha is running around out there somewhere...you’ll be able to recognize her with her red coat... [big grin]
