A hearty Thank You to Festool for the Battery price REDUCTION!

While Festool raised prices on virtually everything last week, the one silver lining was the deep reduction in prices for the 4.2amp 18V batteries to $40 each, and the TCL3 charger to $65! [tongue]

That's like three batteries for the price of one prior to April 1st, and I was more than happy to take advantage!  Ordered three batteries and two chargers. Likely to buy more batteries soon.

Thank you Festool!! [big grin]

Cheers,

Frank

I ordered 2 on April 1st, just waiting for their stock to come in. Great deal. Sometimes there is a silver lining to their price changes.

Thanks for the heads up. I just picked up a handful of batteries and this helped make the decision to pick-up a bare cordless carvex.

4 batteries and the tool for $15 more than the kit with one battery (you will need a charger though).

They must be clearing out the old stock in readiness for the new 5ah batteries then.

Not necessarily.  The price to produce batteries has dropped considerably based on technology and a growing need.

My bet goes on discontinuation. How many people would pay such a large difference for the increase in power if both were still on the market?

That's one hell of a price drop. And if that was the case. Wouldn't the price of batteries drop in this part of the world too. In my experience when Festool start dropping prices, that means something better is just round the corner. I guess we will just have to wait for the introduction of the 5Ah's to see a 4.2ah price drop here.

I, too, expect that this is the reason.  But, I don't really care what the reason is -it's a great price!

OK so trying to figure out if this becomes another opportunity to shoehorn myself into more Festool. Have bought quite a bit lately but maybe this is another opportunity if I can just figure it out.

I have just ordered a Makita LXDT06X1 impact driver. This is the 3 speed. 1/4" with the automatic torque adjustment feature. Comes with 2 batteries and a charger and hard case plus some accessories that are kinda' neat. The Festool TI15 is a combo impact driver and is much more money if you buy it as the complete kit with 2 batteries and a charger. The Makita is I think a very very nice impact driver. Might be everything the Festool is if you really want a cordless impact driver and are not into the whole combo tool thing when it comes to drills and drivers anyway. I am not to be honest. Have a very nice corded 3/8" drill and a very nice corded 1/2" drill. Like the consistent power delivery of the corded drills especially in the 1/2" where IMO, you really want to make sure of what you are doing as you could end up hurting yourself. You can with any tool really. But that one could get you if you not careful.

So does this battery deal (and I think they did something similar with chargers NO?????) present an opportunity to try to piece together a new TI15 at a lower price instead of buying the complete kit with batteries and charger and case all in one shot?

Do folks here have experience with the Makita and would I as well to just keep moving ahead with the Makita purchase considering that I really prefer in this case to just come out of it with a really good impact driver as oppose to a combination tool. If I have described anything wrong in this post, I apologize for that. A mind boggling array of drill and driver combinations out there from all the suppliers and my head is spinning a little.

Well, while most dealers are selling for $40.00, for some reason Amazon has returned to a $110 price for the 18V 4.2amps.

This is crazy because I just bought two from them for $40/each.  I decided I wanted more, so just ordered two more from Bob Marino at the "proper" new price of $40.00.

Due diligence dudes!

Cheers,

Frank

We use Makita at work, we just have the single speed brushless impact driver, but it works great. I have a 3-speed Milwaukee Fuel at home, and I love it. It's three speed/torque settings are delicate, regular, and HOLY CRAP BALLS! If the 3-speed Makita is anywhere near this good, you'll love it. Plus, I've found the Makita tools are quite a bit lighter than my Milwaukees.

The only cordless Festools that make sense to me are the drills, and I don't buy them for two reasons:

1. All my battery powered stuff needs to be the same so I can have one charger, one battery type, etc. And Festool doesn't offer a 1/2" impact, sawzall, angle grinder, etc.

2. Good lord, they're expensive, and I don't see them as any better than what I've got.

The cordless TS55 and Carvex seem unnecessary because you're still connected to a vacuum. If not for the stellar dust collection, it's kinda pointless.

The DC on the cordless TS55 is actually very good with the dust bag and no vac.

Thanks for that folks. I forgot to mention that the Model of Makita I have on order is also brushless. So its a 1/4". brushless, 3 speed with the torque adjustment feature, two batteries, a charger and a case. Maybe sounding a bit like I should keep with that. But I think I will still research the Festy a bit more and see what I can figure out.

That's interesting. Everything else I've used with a dust bag has been completely worthless as far as dust collection goes. Must be the blower.

The fully enclosed blade housing really channels the dust into the port. The blade generates a lot of air movement inside the housing. Think about how the dust spews out the port on circular saws in general when there is no vac or bag attached. It is of course better with a vac but is surprisingly good without.

No such luck this side of the pond; we're not seeing those sort of reductions otherwise I would certainly jump on them.

No sympathy here! [big grin]  You all get "negotiated" pricing on your Festools. We pay MAP....period here! (Minimum Adverstised Pricing).  We win for once.... [wink]

True, but the resale value is excellent because of it. I wonder if that's true everywhere else.

It certainly is here in the UK; it's one of the reasons I've invested so heavily as you can sometimes make back almost as much as you originally paid for them!
