A New? use of a story stick

I had one of those times when using a story stick was much better than measuring.  It was to get the width of the bottoms and tops for some heavy duty cabinets I'm making for my shop.  As I got my measurement something dawned on me that seemed so obvious that if it has been shown before, I apologize in advance.

After squaring up the carcass as best as I could, I took my measurement on my Woodpecker story stick using the black stop which usually used at the end.

Then I added a tab at each end to keep it parallel.  After that I simply slide it under the rail butting the stop against the rail and setting my stop block at the other end.

Then I made my cut and here are the results.  I expect some variation on the other cabinets as this ply isn't too consistent from sheet to sheet but I thought it was worth sharing.

That Woodpecker story stick is so darn useful! I've used it for a similar purpose, but for shelf widths not depths. I would say I use it more than a tape measure once I've rough cut my pieces.

That new story stick is indispensable!  Very useful for marking repetitive marks for domino joints on multiple items.

I'll be using this method soon, great times-aver and better results too. Thanks for posting.
