A quick, easy ceramic sink installation. Oh - wait .........

Tung oil is a great choice. Do you warm it up or thin to reduce viscosity to aid penetration?

It’s ready to use straight out of the can - a pretty free-flowing liquid. I’ve never had any penetration issues. I just sand to 120-grit and pour it on. The timber just drinks it - especially the endgrain. Maybe the brand I use (Liberon) is slightly pre-thinned maybe?

Liberon makes both what appears to be a pure tung oil product and a quick-dry tung oil product. I think the regular tung oil product is pure because they list a 4 day drying time (and that may be just for recoating). The instructions also say:
"For ease of application dilute the first one or two coats with up to 50% white spirit." Which I've seen/read elsewhere but have never done.

I love pure tung oil, but man the drying time for each coat demands patience and I've found it can take weeks for the finish to really dry.
