About to Order a Kapex

After thinking for a long time about purchasing a Kapex, I think I'm about to buy one. My question is about the UG stand and extensions, are they included in the 30 day policy or should I wait to order them until I know whether or not I'm going to keep the Kapex?

Festool considers the UG an accessory, not a tool, so it would not be covered by the warranty or 30 day return policy.

For me the UG cart and extensions are one of the best things about the Kapex.

+1

Yes, they "make" the KAPEX for me too. Wouldn't be without them. Tough call when you thing you may buy, but potentially cash out before 30 days - but not get to experience it in all its glory!

If you're fairly confident, you could always take a little risk that you may need to sell the UG stand and extensions here or on EBay if you do pull th 30 day pin on the KAPEX !!

I have no doubt that it is a superior saw compared to my Dewalt but is it worth the extra money? Only one way to find out I guess.

Absolutely true.  [thumbs up]

I'm also thinking of a new Kapex with the UG stand and wings. Hadn't thought of NOT ordering any accessories until I was certain that I was satisfied with the saw. Hmmm. I sure can understand waiting when the accessories are not returnable. One does have to question this policy -- the policy on tools gives one confidence in the purchase, but this accessory policy does not. Maybe not the best policy for a company like Festool. Some cheap brand, maybe, but not Festool. Don't they stand behind their products? [sad]

I'm glad this was mentioned as I had no idea that accessories were not returnable within the 30 day trial period.  Thanks, Shane.

"Don't they stand behind their products?"

Geeze... how about a policy for consumables too? If you are not happy with the use you got out of a piece of sandpaper within 30 days you can return it...

Sure, but what about the unopened boxes of sandpaper that were ordered along with that new sander? Why not accept these along with a returned sander? I suspect some dealers might, and good for those that do. But, don't you think that Festool could take another look at their policies? I do.

Maybe I should have written, "don't they stand behind their accessories?" And, why not? Seems odd to me when they otherwise have such good policies.

If you are purchasing online and don't have the opportunity to touch and feel an item before purchase, then you almost need to have the ability to return an item to feel good about the purchase. I seldom ever have reason to return an item. But the inability to do so gives me pause. Many retailers have excellent return policies, and I can order a variety of products without concern. Festool should reconsider.

Awesome .. I'm going to look for and underwriter to fund a new insurance concept. Purchase regrets insurance ... Pay $25 a month and have the opportunity to return up to $10,000 in a 12 month window - in good saleable condition ...

I can also offer it as a sales component for retailers for 5% of the retail price.

Who want to invest?

I got an offer I could not refuse. Yesterday a dealer (who knew I had an interest) mailed me he had a Kapex 120 demo, production month July 2015, that he could offer me for a third lower than list price. It will arrive tomorrow!

So about the "Festool considers then UG stand an accesorry"

Festool's 30 day policy states the following,

"Buy with confidence. If you are not completely satisfied, return your tool to the selling dealer within 30 days and you will receive a refund of either your purchase price or the lowest retail price at which the same item has been offered since your date of purchase. Freight charges are not refundable. For the purposes of this policy, a tool is defined as a product with a serial number."

The UG stand does come with a serial number...  So by policy shouldn't the UG be considered a tool ?

The UG extensions do not have serial numbers so I can see why the policy leaves them out.

Having used the cart and extensions I would not be without them.  Very easy to set up, even on pretty rough terrian.  Also more sturdy than you expect when you 1st start looking at it.

DOH! I stand corrected...  [blink] My brain has become saturated with Festool info, I guess. Apologies.

It used to be that a tool was a corded, cordless or pneumatic product.

I have been told that return shipping of a 30 day return is the responsibility of the buyer. If you are buying the UG cart (Or MTF, Kapex, CMS.. anything big and heavy!), I would just be aware of what the costs might be to return such an item, how far away the dealer is etc...

I just purchased the UG cart from a fairly local dealer, the box it comes in is light and mostly empty, but it is HUGE! Mine only had to travel a couple hundred miles, I cant imagine what the cost might be to send that sucker across the country.

Just some food for thought on the 30 day policy...

(Per Festool's 30-day return policy, the customer is responsible for any applicable shipping costs to return a tool during the 30-day period.)

I recently transported my Kapex on the UG cart for the first time, super easy to lift it all into my SUV and remove it again. Set up and ready to go in about 10 seconds.

Compared to my Makita 12" SCMS and its gravity rise stand, that one is a chore to move and set up.

Sometimes the dealer will work with you. I purchased a of 1010 and didn't like it, but I didn't want to bother with the return.  I called my dealer about a month later to order a C18 and he asked how the 1010 was. I told him i didn't like the inconsistent play in the turret and should have gotten the 1400 instead.  He said if you want a 1400 instead just pay the difference and send the 1010 back. Granted they didn't return the accessories but i sold the ones i didn't need on here.
