Abranet Vacuum Sanding Block

Personally, I do not like mechanical sanding once I start to apply the finish.  The only exception is that I may use my ETS 125 with Platin 2 to buff the final finish or with felt pads to apply and buff a wax finish.  As a result, I hand sand between coats which results in undesirable dust on and around me and the workpiece.

I found a solution that I am sure many of you have already discovered.  Mirka now makes a hand sanding block that uses their Abranet sanding medium.  Big deal, huh?  Well, the cool part is that you can attach a dust collector to the back of the block.  My CT-22 fits with the adapter Mirka provides.  It is a tight fit, but it does work.  Using the dust collection is, of course, optional.

It is lightweight and very comfortable to hold.  As far as the dust collection, I had to dial my CT-22 way down because the suction was otherwise so strong that the block was immovable.  There was virtually NO dust anywhere.

It comes in a 5" and 8" length and both are 2 3/4" wide.  Grits from 80 to 600 are available as is a 1/4" thick interface pad for sanding contours.  I bought the 5" to get into smaller spaces, the interface pad, an assortment box of 5 each grits from 80-400 and separate pack of ten 600 grits.

In addition to the benefits, the prices were reasonable and as many of you know, Abranet is very durable.

It seems to me that that this would be good for small drywall sanding jobs.

It works great!  For some reason the adaptor wasn't with mine, but some wraps of electrical tape cured that.

Okay Neill you're not a newbie so I shouldn't have to say this, no pictures, it didn't happen.  I'd love to see some pics.

I have the small sander with the 3/4" Abranet hose and a selection of sandpaper grits.  The hose has a conical-shaped gizmo which pops into the CT inlet port.

My review?  It is great!  One huge advantage of the Abranet hose is that it's very light and flexible.  It does NOT get in the way and doesn't obstruct handing sanding.  While I would normally use one of my Festool sanders for most sanding, the Abranet hand sander makes final sanding a breeze.

I haven't tried it for sanding drywall simply because I didn't think of it  But I suspect that it will do quite well.

Regards,

Dan.

Brice,

You are correct.  Thanks to Bobbobbob for the links.  The components are available individually.

My camera works fine except I cannot seem to get the software to work with my 4 year old laptop.  It worked fine with my desktop that I gave to my son-in-law.  Both had the same O/S.
