Accessories over priced---wish they were reasonable at least.

Good point, Richard!

Lots of products are like this.  Look at new car pricing -- most any model can be loaded up with options that elevate the price to 50% more than the base model, or more...

Car dealers often don't make money on new cars regardless of trim level. They make their money on used car sales.

I half agree with festools pricing because their tools are cheaper here than in Germany or anywhere else for that matter. They do this to gain market share in our heavily saturated market.  But I think they are taking it a little far on things that could be cheaper if shipped with the tools take the domino set for example it is $50 more for 2 accessories that on their own each cost $50 so they are over charging somewhere. I don't think apple's pricing model is even this bad.

I figure the cost of accessories into the cost of a machine.  Is it expensive?  Perhaps...but I look at it more from the value the overall tool/accessories provide.  I like having options and being able to pick and choose accessories that I want/need is great.  Also, consider Festool makes lots of accessories and not just one or two for any given tool and this is a huge plus.  Some other brand routers, for example,  do not come with an edge guide or other accessories and if they do they are often not readily available.  It is what it is and you do not have to buy one brand over the other...it is good to have choices and competition and figure out what makes sense for your individual budget/need.

+1 on the availability of the accessories  [big grin]

Good (great) tools are a lifetime investment.  Whether it's Festool, Lie-Nielsen, Bridge City, Veritas or other small shops making & selling quality.
The especially great thing about Festool is that if & when you decide to sell you can often recoup nearly your entire investment.
