Acrylic splash backs

If you want my honest opinion Brett, they're absolute rubbish if this one I've just done is anything to go by.

Bad planning and poor quality units.

It's a shame I wasn't involved at an early stage as I could have supplied a much better kitchen for the same sort of money ie crown or omega

Even Howdens would be better

Cheers!

always want the truth.

I had a feeling they were all show. Their catalogue looks really good and and nice and thick.

They give the impression of good quality.

Just not heard of them much so got the feeling they can't be that good.

There's a few things I don't like on this particular one. They sold the customer 1000 wide larder units which have 18mm shelves with no central support. Now they're not gonna sag are they lol. All 3 corners have 800 wide corner units rather than the 1000 wide units I normally fit in corners. So you still have a 400 door but the space in the corner is 600. The way they've done it it wastes 200mm for every corner which is another 600 unit on this kitchen. The list goes on I won't go through it all I'll be here all night lol

I have my first wren kitchen at the end of the month I am dreading it everything about them sound wrong 4-6weeks for a kitchen then ten days for replacements or damages I have a feeling it's going to be a nightmare

I was working with a kitchen fitter a couple of weeks ago and asked him about Wren kitchens, he did not regard them very highly. He said he fitted one about a year ago, got a phone call a few weeks after fitting saying that a wall unit had fallen down. He went straight round to look and said the back of the unit was still fastened to the wall but the rest of the unit and its contents were on the floor, it had just fallen apart. Someone came from Wren to look and just said "Yeah, we have had this happen a few times."!  [scared]

Watching this thread with interest as I have never used acrylic for anything more than jigs or some set squares I made to aid setting out, learning quite a bit which is always nice.
hope the job goes well, Rob.

Cheers Rob :)

Not anymore, this one is the only woodworking forum I use now the others just got like too much hard work. I might pop in and have a read if you don't have to sign in for pics to appear though so thanks for letting me know.

Think I'd much rather a synopsis from you, (why do I keep wanting to call you Chris?) fresh eyes and experience count for a lot.
Unlike other forums I have never had spammy or daft emails/pm's via FOG or our friends here, so I return.

Kitchen design confuses me

On one hand it's modern look with smooth doors but then...

It has V grooves on the end panels and back of units and a sink all which should be used on a more cottage style kitchen

No?

Totally right Brett. The customer is always right though lol. As I say I wasn't around when they ordered it all, not that I could have got them to change anything as its their personal taste . I got called in when the original fitter couldn't do it. Think they're glad he couldn't, had a quick look at the utility room he had just fitted and it was terrible.

Not at all , just didn't want anyone thinking I'd designed it lol. I did talk them out of having infills over the units though. Wren sent extra plinth so the ceiling gap could be filled . I said it would look naff they agreed.

Ah man totally agree it would look crap.

As if they Wren even suggested it!

Fitted the splashbacks yesterday. I used my new homemade mft plus a few extra support horses which helped big time. You definitely need a good long solid bench to work with this stuff.

Looks very nice. Quality job done.
What was the acrylic like to work with?  How long did it take?

It was a pain but the cutting to size was easy with the tf52 blade. Just the bits round the window and the sockets that were a bit fiddly. I just used a router to do the sockets with a template.
