Hi all,

Just bought a used Fuji Mini Mite 3. I know absolutely nothing about spray painting  [scared]
I have 2 nozzles...a gold one marked 4H, and a torquoise one marked 5H and 2 needles with no markings on them (that I can see)
How do I know which needle matches with what nozzle ?

Also, gun looks to have been used with white water base paint, and could use a clean. Not caked, but paint on inside of feed tube from bottom canister, and inside nozzles. Can I attempt to clean this, and if so, how ?

Thanks

I am amusing you have the XPC gun. The smaller diameter needle (1.4mm)  (look at the end) is the 4H and the larger is the 5H (1.8mm). Make sure you are using the correct fluid nozzle as well. The needle will just protrude a millimeter or so from the front of the nozzle when inserted. If it doesn't it's the large needle.
You can download a user manual, cleaning instructions and a chart on the Fuji FAQ page

Buy a good spray gun cleaning kit. These are available online. To clean my gun I use Kleen-Again a soya based cleaner. It works quickly. Rinse the gun thoroughly after.

So....when I change the needle, I need to change the fluid head also ?

Got 2 needles. 2 spray things in different colours, but only 1 nozzle  [unsure]

Since you only have one, either use the same nozzle for both (there is not a huge difference in diameter between the two) or order a new one for the one that's missing.

The colored and labeled items are the air caps.

Look at the flats of the nozzle, some of mine came stamped with the millimeter size stamped on them

You'll know if you mix the needle and nozzle, they will not seal and you'll have paint/finish all over.

You must change the needle/nozzle in pairs.

You can mix air caps but not the needle/nozzle.

Without the needle/nozzle in the gun, insert the needle into the nozzle, look at the output end you'll see how it seats. Insert the other needle, you'll see the difference in how it fits together.

Trouble is.....I know you will laugh  [big grin] [big grin]

If I use correct pairing of needle/nozzle....fluid comes out nozzle like a water gun !
If I use larger needle with smaller nozzle, everything seems fine.

5H nozzle with 5H needle = water spout from nozzle
4H nozzle with 4H needle = water spout from nozzle
but 5H needle with 4H nozzle = looks good with no leaks. Spray pattern looks good using water only.

I am totally new to spraying and bought this unit used. The gun looked slightly tatty, and I am wondering if maybe its faulty, but not too sure.

Any help appreciated.

Take pictures of the needles and nozzles and post them. Post a picture of the gun also, side view and one looking straight into the front of the gun without a nozzle in it.

If you received only 1 nozzle, how can you test a combination of needles/nozzles?

The one that seals is a matched pair, not a mixed number pair.

Fuji changed the heads of the Xp guns awhile back. You may have an old model gun and trying to use new style nozzles, they are not interchangeable. Older nozzles are no longer available.

Tom,

Found second nozzle in bottom of crate. Slipped through hole.

Will take pics now.

Thanks

Those needles are toast. Not sure how they got so pooched.
Nozzels look ok, but I don't think you can buy needles separately so you will get a new set anyway.
Buy a new set. The gun (XPC) looks fine as near as I can tell.
Tom may have other comments.

Do you have the collar for the gun (cap).
It's not in the pictures, so that's why I am asking.

Yes Tim, a blue collar. Thanks for reply.

I really wish Fuji would make a case for these guns and needles like my CAT guns. Keeps everything in one place.
I really need to set up a Systainer for my Fuji guns and cap sets. My needles and cap sets are in plastic baggies in the cardboard box the gun was shipped in. It's pathetic.

I agree. As a newbie to sprayguns, and buying used. I get a box with turbine and hose. Clear enough.
Then I have 2 needles, 2 nozzles, and 2 spray caps. No markings of any sort on nozzles or needles.

Surely there must be little cost in marking what goes with what ?

Good news is your gun is a second generation gun. The vane at the top of the airport is longer on the second generation gun.

Bad news is you need need new air cap sets, those are beyond junk. This being a second gen gun they are available, first gen air cap sets are no longer available.

You should also have a cap and spring that closes the needle when you release the trigger.

Sys Mini and Kaizen foam to the rescue.

After using the gun for awhile you can look at the parts and know what goes with what.

You cannot mix needles and nozzles, but you can mix air caps (the colored part). I often have a cap on the gun one size larger or smaller than the one that matches the fluid set. Alters the pattern and amount of work done on the fluid as it comes out of the gun.

Very nice Tom.

I do have cap and spring.

Noting all your points gents. Thanks very much for your input.

Bearing in mind that one set of nozzle/needles seem to work, would it be OK to use these. Would I get a finish at all ?
