Hey guys,
I am new to rustic wood….
I just fell into some amazing wood that I am building a dining room table out of. It is beautiful rough sawn planks from sugar pine (I believe). The pics below are of the wood soaking wet after scrubbing it down from the ages of dust/dirt on it.

My wife has requested a mimic of Restoration Hardware's Ironbolt Trestle Table..
First off, is there any other prep for stain acceptance other than simply cleaning it? Second, since it has amazing texture and circular rough sawn marks, how would you guys finish this for a dining table that keeps the texture, but is smoothed no splinters? Additionally, how would you guys apply the stains? My guess is that Restoration Hardware utilizes a complex finish process, which I know nothing about. My previous experience is simple wood conditioner, stain, and poly. The goal is to have that "character" of darker in the grains and a very rustic low sheen to flat finish. I assume that using Minwax is out of the question?
I have searched and found a few things here, but nothing specific yet. Thanks in advance.
