Advice on Where to put a New to woodworking resource thread...

I was thinking that It would be nice to have a general thread, or maybe more than one thread, to guide New woodworkers, and New to Festool. Since this is the Suggestion Forum, I thought I'd start here.

An example would be, I am thinking about using a Festool MFT to hand plane, any advice? Also I am looking for advice on how to hand plane.

Within a thread there would be a link to FOG member suggested resources.

Right now this is just a raw thought, but I kind think there may be a want/ need since I have seen several new to Festool, and or new to Woodworking posts. I know that there is a search engine, but I'm not sure if it is intuitive enough for those just starting.

Thanks for the idea. Not sure exactly how that would work out. A single general thread might (probably) would have way too much to look through once it got going. Separate thread for each topic  would all need to be stickied in order to make it easier to find them , and would yield  probably something like 100+ stickies.  Maybe I'm not quite getting your idea though?

Definitely worth thinking about.

I think what you are aiming for is better suited to a wiki.
That being said, the search function here is both useful and fairly simple. Perhaps we need an automatic intro message for all new members that describes the search engine?

Yes Seth, that was it. Still a rough idea/ in the brainstorming phase. Thanks for the replies. Something I will have to think about for a while.

What could be an interesting idea would be to have a FOG Wiki to complement our forum since there is a TON of information here that could be summarized in well written articles in a Wiki and could be linked there more consistently than tracking down this and that thread from days yonder here.

How I would see them complementing each other would be to discuss a subject on the forum and once we reach a conclusion / solution it could be edited in the Wiki as a best practice article.

The downside of this approach is obviously how many of us are willing to write those articles after we get the info we needed from the discussion thread...

I document some of the things I research online in my personal wiki, but this is more of a scrapbook for myself and the random search engine user who has a similar problem.

We uses Confluence at work for many things including the knowledge base feature to great results in sharing information with a team.
