How y'all

I will soon have a hammer A31-31 planer / thicknesser.

Could anyone advise if 20AMP socket/ plug is required or is 16 AMP sufficient?

I will have a sufficient cable gauge and a high threshold breaker. It's just the industrial style plug are only available in 16 amp or 32 amp where I'm based.

Tks

My A3-31 (shellix head, 4hp motor) runs perfectly on a 15amp plug. Checked by the agent.

The K3 slider (4 hp motor) is ditto. Also installed by the agent.

The N4400 bandsaw (4 hp motor) runs on 20 amp. The start up here is more demanding.

Note that with all Hammer motors it is recommended that you hold down the start button until the motor is running. Do not release the button earlier. This is to protect the capacitor.

Thanks Derek. Can the N4400 be run on 16 amp? From reading your post the options might have been 15amp or 20amp, so perhaps for the N4400 a 16amp plug will be enough?

I don't know for certain, but I doubt it. I vaguely recall that the load was close to 20A.

Keep in mind that my N4400 is now about 8 years old, and used a 4 hp motor. More recent machines use a 3.5 hp. The demands may be less.
