Another FOG Dog Departs this Earth:RIP Monty

Very sorry to hear the news. I had to put my service dog down 1.5 years ago and it still stinks. Prayers are with you and yours.

Thank you for the continued thoughts and best wishes. It is now over a month since I buried my faithfull friend. Everyday I miss him, although the pain is now easing. It's little things mainly born of habit the trick you, like rising from the dinner table and heading for the door to bring him in - oh tricked again!  [eek]

It is perhaps even harder because for now we gave decided not to replace him as we plan to travel in the next few years. Still we were at the Neighbour's last Saturday night and there were four Dogs all wanting some attention.  [smile]

So sorry to hear about loosing Monty.

A good dog is indeed a special creature and a Fog Dog is at the top.

[crying] [crying]

sorry for your loss.

In my life I've had 4 dogs pass over the years,  I remember them all miss them all a lot.  All German Shepherds all with very different loving characters.

Every time I hear/read of some one who has had a dog pass it just reminds me of all our dogs.

Recently we thought our dog wasn't going to be round much longer.  He became ill very quickly and he wasn't him self any more.

Found out he has pancreatitis.  Hes now on very low fat food.  He has human grade chicken dinner cooked for him every night.  Hes always been a very fussy dog. He wont eat when no one is in either he will wait till some one comes back home then he will go back and finish his dinner.

We believe steroids caused his pancreatitis. He was put on them for a short period but shortly after he got pancreatitis.

I make sure I give him a cuddle every time I see him just incase [sad].

I recently had to switch dog food for our dog.  What I thought we were feeding her was good.  Turns out she has a chicken and grain allergy.  Now she eats an expensive food that's made from salmon and sweet potatoes.  Losing a dog is not fun.  Glad to hear a food change helped!

The food change has helped a lot.  When he was feeling unwell he wouldn't even get up and come to the door to greet me.  Even though he looked healthy and seemed fine he wasn't.

He greets me every day again now  [smile] [big grin]
and he is a lot less aggressive with the puppy.

The dog food is a difficult one and it does seem to differ a lot between dogs.  We had one dog live to 15 which is pretty old for a German Shepherd and only reason he had to be put down not because he was ill.  He was actually very healthy still its because his back legs had become useless. He lived on the bags of dry food. Yet we have had dogs on the same food and have had problems so had to change diets.

So we gone ontohttp://honeysrealdogfood.com/range/

At work today and selling metal fence panels to a customer; "what are you using them for?" "I want to convert them into a dog kennel enclosure." "Oh what sort of dog?" Customer reaches in to cabin of ute and out comes a very cute Boxer Pup.  [big grin]

Re dog food, Monty was always happy to eat quality Kangaroo/Chicken Rice and Vegitable based dry food. The three Border Collies next door have a cooked meal every night, two 2 year olds and a Great Aunt who is 14 years old.
