Another Rolling Shop Setup

Just another reason I'm getting tired of my pickup truck!  But less than 10mpg isn't all that fun either!

Thanks, Peter.
He has some great ideas built in there. We bought a 16' box van last fall with the idea of setting it up mainly for our finish work and were looking forward to outfitting it this spring, We might just have to incorporate some of those ideas.

I am looking at something that is.... well... different.  It will be here if and when it happens.  [big grin]

very informative post there peter. are you afraid some one is watching

I love to see organisation that works - still, I can imagine major work being done in that space ... going up and down those steps 50 times to cut things in the mitre saw would get old real quick!

I would have liked to know what festools he had in those systainers  [smile]

We know Peter's shop isn't heated, no tv, fridge. etc. He has to be careful about being able to sleep inside this time of year.

That is really cool, but I'll stick with my trailer with a ramp. I like driving just my truck home and leaving the trailer on site.
That lock mechanism is definitely worth looking into! I do need to take some tips from him and organize my setup.

Well, I've been inspired to start getting myself sorted out! I spent the day emptying out the garage, moving stuff round and putting things back with better organisation ... but then darkness struck, so I had to rush and put everything back in [sad]

At least I'm in a better place than I was, but I think it's going to take me about 5 goes at this before I'm even remotely organised.

Great video, really must sort my van out!

Here is an earlier version with more systainers

Sorry don't know how to imbed videos.

I enjoy the mobile shops videos, my stationary shop is not much larger and since Sandy emptied it out I have been reorganizing it & rationalizing what I need in the shop versus what I can store outside it and grab as needed. The biggest difference is that I don't need the storage in the shop for mobile tools (i.e. the tablesaw), it lives outside the shop and I set it up outside if I need to use it. It is still awfully cramped and a lot of the mobile ideas apply.

Thanks for sharing.

Side question - anyone have experience using the FastCap peel & stick edge banding? It looks like he was applying it in freezing temps, does it stick well enough to overcome temp/humidity swings?

Pretty sure I have used it as in temps a low as 45F with no trouble.

Not sure how it would work out at freezing or below. The glue is CA based so it might be fine. :-\

Have used in a wide humidity range with no problems.

Thanks Seth. I will give it a try.

BTW, the FastCap roller works very well. Also I find that I get the best results and adhesion by rolling after each apart in the process.

Stick it on, roll it.
Trim the ends, roll it.  (at least the ends)
Trim the edges, roll it.
Sand edges , roll it.

Sounds like a nuisance but if the tools are all handy it is fast.

Do you use a hand roller or do you have a roller(s) set into the bench (or the like) ? ... I'm not thinking right/wrong, I'm just workflow curious ("workflow curious" - hmm, I don't think I'll utter that phrase in a pub)
