In terms of vacs, you might also consider getting the CT-Sys, since this is reasonably priced compared to the larger vacs.  It doesn't have variable suction, but this won't be an issue with something like the ETS-EC 150/5

. As a low budget alternative for the Vac he's already got... I've seen people add a stubby section of hose or tubing from the Vac end of  their hose to the Vac inlet with a series of holes drill in the extension piece to lower the amount of suction on the vac. They add or remove masking tape over the holes to dial in the suction level they're looking for.
Not as easy as a true adjustable Vac, but a great budget saver for now.  [thumbs up] [thumbs up]

From your pic I just remembered another advantage of the Rotex over the ETS (EC)s for stripping in cramped situations like stairs, which is the pad protector.

At some point you will realise that all sanders basically move a paper or screen, and that all vacuums basically suck. The papers and screens can make as much of a difference as stroke and power.

That said the LS130 looks like the only thing for the bull nose that makes sense.

The CTL-SYS uses a bleed off on the hose instead of electronically variable suction. You can use the sanders with the little bags, but they won't be operating in their peak efficiency. Personally I'd always use them with DC.

I just measured my staircase. The risers are only 1100 mm so with the ETS 150, I can only sand the treads. So, only the RO90 is left. I feel like I immediately have to buy 2 sanders :-/

Personally I think the Midi is a far better option that the CTL-SYS unless ultimate portability is critical.

I would get the midi. With limited funds I would suggest running the midi and a different sander.

Going back to what you need...
I can make a cogent argument that a sander with a flat surface is ill suited for sanding round parts. The LS130 is a specialty machine, but ideal for the bullnose work.
Back to the flat parts... Any sander that fits will work. A round sander by definitions will not fit well in corners... In fact it will not fit in there at all.
So you need a sander with a pointy end or a square end.
Your choices here are: RO-90, DX93, DTS400, maybe the RS2E ?? and possibly any other manufacturers 1/2-sheet or 1/4-sheet sander.

That said if the risers are 110-mm (as opposed to the 1100 you mentioned above) then that counts out my particular 1/2-sheet which is 115 x 230 mm. Even if it is a great sander, it needs to fit the space to be able to sand. The same might apply to the RS2E

The treads can be done with a 1/2-sheet, but at that point the choice seems to be DTS, DX93, RO-90, or some other tool for the corners. So the RO90 may be a better choice than I first thought?? Unless you want be buying multiple sanders all at once.

  sanding with a 36mm hose will not be as fun or easy as getting the smaller 27mm hose that normally is sold to work with the small tools/sanders. At any rate, someone with more experience on those adapters will clue you in to which one will work best for you.

487721 D 36 DM-AS is the standard tool end that should come with the hose. This one has the 36 mm opening.

498528 RM D36/27-AS is a replacement for the 487721. You take the other one off and fix this one permanently to the hose. It has a 27 mm opening. By using this one you lose the 36 mm ability.

768135 DC-D 36/27-AS is a removeable adaptor that changes a 36 mm opening to a 27 mm opening. You put this one inside 487721 and then connect your sander or other tool that needs 27 mm. You can remove this adapter anytime to switch between 27 and 36.

So if you have a 36 mm hose without a black rubber tool end, you need to get both 487721 and 768135 if you want to use it with a 27 mm and a 36 mm opening. This seems the most logical choice to me.

If you only want 27 mm then get 498528. But that seems a waste to me.
