Anti-static hoses

I just picked up the Bosch VAC005 hose for $35.  It is not anti-static.  It is 35mm in diameter and is 5m long.  I need it for my Kapex.  I currently have the Kapex hooked up to a Festool Midi vac, but the hose is only 27mm.  I heard the dust collection is better with a 36mm hose.  However, I didn't want to spend over $100 on Festool vacuum hose.

Anyhow, I checked out the Bosch hose.  It is well made (made in Germany like the Festool), but lacks the anti-static feature.  So why is Festool's anti-static hose 3x the price?  I saw that Bosch also makes an anti-static hose and it is about $90.  So my question is what makes the anti-static hose 3x the price?  Materials?  Manufacturing?  Hype?

It's the Green, no matter how you look at it, spend it, save it, whatever... it's the Green.

I was looking at the 23' hose earlier and decided to move on for while due to the cost.
Maybe I'll go see what Bosch has comparatively.

Actually to be fair, the Festool  Anti-static is closer to about 2x the price, not 3x. Festool $191, Bosch $93.77 - Amazon. There may be a difference in materials, might have a higher carbon content, which would lead to a higher price and better anti-static capabilities. The ends on the Festool are designed to fit the Festool lines and the ends look to be higher quality than those on the Bosch with rotating connector on the Festool. If you upgrade to Festool connectors which will cost you $50, there is about a $48 difference between the setups. Festool hose is a hair larger than the Bosch 36mm vs 35mm, the Warranty on the Festool is 3 years where it's only 1 year on the Bosch, which Festool Warranty is a no fuss warranty. And of course is green and matches the colors of your Midi and your Kapex. :)

All three of them. Manufacturing and materials can be a bit higher, but not that much because carbon isn't that expensive. And then there's Festool's mark-up that's probably higher than with other brands.
 
Out of Bosch and Festool, I would guess Bosch would also be the one to cut larger corners off of manufacturing quality and materials, even if it's made in Germany, since they have outsourced at least their American line of tools.

I believe the hoses are manufactured in the same place/plant/company for both.  Given the color of the hoses are different I can't imagine that the hoses come from the same manufacturing run but are split during the QC inspection process (common way to charge more or less).  Since I have all three hoses you're referring to, I know the ends are different however there isn't a fundamental composition difference of the ends.  There's a chance the static transference properties may be better/higher quality but since they're not listed as a characteristic/attribute anywhere in the literature, it's fairly hard to believe they're dramatically different.

My guess is that they are, in fact, the same hoses sold by different manufacturers who make different profits based on their name, customer base, and market traction. 
 
I have the Bosch 36mm antistatic hose, replaced the ends with Festool ends and have around $130.00 invested, plus the Bosch is longer.
 
One could put a 22-ga wire from one end to the other. It would be a pin for connecting and disconnecting unless one used some copper tape on the ends.
 
Last time I checked, the green A-S hoses are quite a bit more sturdy than the gray non-AS hoses.

I own a total of three, but the oldest (2006) one is the one I like most. It's more flexible. For the planer the 36mm is a must though.

Have had no problems with the gray Y-hose of the Precisio either though.

Thank you for the info, I just ordered one as I have been battling buying the long one and wasting part of the hose.

I have posted this a few times now, I bought some of my hoses from Stihl.
They are AS, and can be orderd to any size, read ANY size and extremly cheap.
The 50mm for example cost 8,30€ per meter excl. VAT.
The 50mm twist coupling cost about 5€ excl VAT.

What I know is that Stihl carries 27mm, 32mm, 37mm and 50mm hoses and have adapaters for hooking up hand tools as well.

It was quite a search to find a dealer who would help me and knew enough about the vacuum line of Stihl.
But I found a good dealer now and the hoses are great, but than again its just a hose.....
