AntiStatic hose Vs. Non-AntiStatic hose

I am going to buy the CT 22 this weekend and I would like to buy one of the cleaning kits so that I can kill 2 birds with one stone.  I want the cleaning kit for: 1.) to be able to use the CT for cleaning purposes and 2.) to get the 36mm dia. hose so I can hook my Kapex up to the CT.

The universal cleaning kit is $140 and comes with a Non-Antistatic 36mm hose.  The Trades/Installer cleaning kit is $205 (I think) and comes with a AntiStatic 36mm hose.

I would really like to save the money and buy the Non-Antistatic kit but I don't want to kick myself in the butt for buying the wrong one.  Right now all I know about antistatic and non-antistatic is that it can prevent fires?  My question is, what did people do for all these years before antistatic hoses came out?  Do I really need one?  Festool has given me so many hard decisions to make and it drives me nuts!

You know with my luck if I don't buy the antistatic hose I will have a fire.

I would like to hear some thought and experiences from either side on this matter.

Thanks.

Also, this is something else I can think about.

If I just buy the CT-22, what items do I need to purchase to be able to use the hose that came with the CT on the Kapex.

Thanks.

I think the wonders of anti-static are over exaggerated.

Before I heard of Festool (or Festo as it was named back then), I worked with normal static hoses for years and I never had any problems. I understand the anti-static hose might save you from a very occasional zap, but I think the emphasis laid down on the new feature is largely a sales gimmick.

The static build-up on non-antistatic hoses tends to attract sawdust both inside and outside of the hose. I've experienced this mostly when using a router with a non-antistatic 36 mm hose.

I've used antistatic and non-antistatic 36 mm hoses on my KAPEX and haven't noticed any difference nor have I while cleaning.

I think the biggest decision between the Cleaning Sets is the metal vs. plastic and floor nozzle differences.

Dave,

The hose that is supplied with the 22 works fine with the Kapex.  I have some dust buildup.  The 36mm hose might work better but I still do not think you will be able to get it all.

I made the mistake the other day of forgetting to attach the hose.  What a mess that was.

Neill,

Did you have to buy an special connectors to make the hose that comes with the Ct 22 work on the Kapex?

Dave,

No.

Dave:

The KAPEX has a hose connector that is virtually identical to the TS 55. The 27 mm hose goes inside and the 36 mm goes outside.

I happen to really like the anti-static hoses. I cut a lot a Azek (PVC trim), cutting it generates a static charge and the stuff sticks to everything. The antistatic feature prevents most of the dust from sticking to hose. If your going to cut synthetic materials like PVC, ABS, HDPE, Plexiglas and so on the AS hose helps.
