Perspective of a noobie… and someone who made setup decisions and purchases with a priority of making things physically easier for me, as I have been navigating a prolonged rehab process.
I have both a MIDI and a CT 26. I love them both.
The lighter weight and smaller size of the MIDI is much nicer for transporting up stairs, footprint, etc. This was especially important for me after a catastrophic complication from an orthopedic surgery… I am still recovering.
I bought the CT26 for the sole purpose of having a boom arm. And I love my boom arm. I didn’t look at how difficult or easy putting a modified Festool boom arm or DIY’ed boom arm on the MIDI would be. I wasn’t in a position to accomplish that at the time. Maybe others here can speak to that. The boom arm is “durable steel,” but I used an angle grinder to modify the height very easily.
The Oneida Ultimate Dust Deputy will fit on a MIDI, but it’s a tad easier on the CT26– though the attachment on both leaves something to be desired. That hose outlet size difference comes into play again…. When I had my UDD on my MIDI, I just ran the hose under the garage, as others here showed. Now the UDD sits on my 26… which takes up less floor space than the regular Dust Deputy attached to my old Fein shop vac that sits side-by-side… but they fit under a Kapex extension arm. So depending upon existing setup, future goals, and space… each could be a great choice.
If I could have put a boom arm on the MIDI, I would not have bought the CT26, and been very happy with the smaller flexible MIDI. YMMV.
