I've had one of the aprons since they came out months ago but mine is starting to wear a bit.  Do any of the dealers have any left?

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It was up to $82 last I checked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [scared] [eek]

Russell,

I know that I love my Festool apron, but it was a promotional item.  A similar item - not Festoolized can be seen here:  Work apron #3

I think this is the closest. If I remember correctly the Festool apron was made by Bucket Boss.

That Bucket Boss apron shown is a close match.  The 'Festool' apron has another strap connection in the back, so the weight is on your shoulders not you neck.  But it was indeed made by Bucket Boss.

Duluth Trading Company sells a near-identical apron, calling it a fire hose bib apron (I think it's made out of fire hose material).

The 'crossback strap system' is shown on this linked page.  But, it's no longer for sale.
Here is the improved version, with mesh-bottomed pockets (let's the dust out!)

I like the look of that apron.  I really have enjoyed my Festool apron (in retrospect I should've bought two) and when it finally gives out I'll probably replace it with this one.

Russ,

Like Peter mentioned, the aprons were a promotional item and are long gone from most dealers' stock. Also, as WJ mentioned, check out Duluth's aprons - just about all their stuff is high quality and all is fully guaranteed.

The crossback strap is by far the better way to go -- back when I was an apprentice Tool & Die Maker, wearing an apron 10 hours a day with tools in pockets the crossback straps were comfortable to wear as opposed to straps hanging on your neck all day.

I remember when the Festool aprons came out there was a manufacturer name on a tag (sewn in if I recall correctly).  It was an American company.  Check your apron tag and Google the company.  I think I did that way back when and aprons were available, but maybe not with Festool name on it.  If you like the product give the company their support.

It's Bucket Boss.  Tag is inside, attached to the side hem, up near the front pencil pocket.

Unfortunately, they don't make any aprons currently that have the cross back strap.  As far as I've been able to find (I researched this much more about 2 months ago) Duluth's is the closest thing.

Funny you mention the Park Tools apron, I was just thinking about a Chris King tool apron I acquired years ago at the International Bike Show in Vegas but apparently they make their own now (and available direct):

Park Tools SA-3 apron:

I've dealt with these people in the past and they were both excellent!  Chris King is the Festool of the bicycle world.
You gotta remember bike mechanics have most tools in their aprons and are on their feet all the time!  I need to dig my old CK apron out and see how it differs from the new ones...

Maybe another idea for FOGwear?  A FOG logo embroidered?  Blue with green straps?  A separate pocket for your iPhone so that you can get RSS feeds while in the shop?

Just thinking...

Those look pretty good although a bit short, for metal working you want it drawn up almost to your Adam's apple to keep hot metal chips off of your neck.  For wood working it's not a problem except for wood turning where you can get a shirt full of wood chips... [wink]

Yeah I was shocked at the price of the CK apron too, I know I didn't pay near that much years ago... but mine was very heavy duty and very comfortable even with a heavy load in the apron (I did load it up with alot more than I'd ever need and it was still comfy).  I'm sure the new one is at least as good but can't say for sure.

Here's another one I just found:  http://www.finishlineusa.com/products/apron.htm
and even better pricing: http://www.treefortbikes.com/product/333222345714/472/Finish-Line-Shop-Apron-Black.html

and a heavy duty one: http://www.ergodyne.com/products/pages/default.aspx?PRD=252&PCA=84
and a lighter duty one:  http://www.ergodyne.com/products/pages/default.aspx?PRD=427&PCA=84

I would think if you were turning, you would want a turner's smock with a closed neck.  Something along the lines of this:

Maybe someone else has some experience with some of these?
