Any info on potential January 2014 Festool Price Increase?

I was planning on purchasing a new Domino DF 700 in the Feb. - March time frame next year.  However, I'm aware that Festool typically raises prices in January.  If Festool is going to follow through and do this again in January 2014, I'll push the purchase forward and save myself a little money.

Insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jay

Jay,

As always we do not discuss pricing strategy on the forum. However I don't recall the price increase ever happening in January. Any changes in prices would be communicated to dealers and customers in a timely manner and typically align with the release of a new catalog. Traditionally, that has happened in the February to April time frame. But nothing has been announced to date for 2014.

As I am not in US, can only give you a clue.

My favourite Australian dealer has just announced on their Website, that Festool price rises will occur on Jan 2, 2014.  [mad]

Edit.
Shane posted at same time as me, so now you have it, as we say, "from the horses mouth".

Saw that increase notice ... didn't give much away!

I fear any significant tool price increases in Oz will severely hamper further local market penetration. Competing track saws are breaking one of the key Festool new customer entry points, plus there's some high quality DC alternatives coming to the market.

Yes Kev, I am still saving for a Kapex.

Hopefully any rise will be less than 10%.

Then there are also exchange rate factors, although we seem to be steady against the Euro as we gradually fall below the US$ parity of three months or so ago.

Thanks all.

I appreciate both the Shane saying as much as he could as well as the heads up on what is happening in Australia.

I guess I'm looking at moving my purchase up from a Feb-March time frame to January to beat any price increases for 2014 that may or may not occur here in the US  [wink]

I wouldn't worry about a price increase seeking up on you without warning.  There's usually a month or more notice ahead of the increase.  Check in here every so often and you won't miss the price increase announcement.

With the Canadian dollar declining in the past year and it predicted to drop even more over the coming year, I just wonder whether the price disparity in Festool prices in Canada will widen further than what it's been.  Time will tell.

Just heard on the quiet that it'll be +2~3% on most thinks sold in Oz. Enough of a nudge to make me jump at the opportunity to grab the saving on the current sword saw promotion (just ordered it) ... currently about $450 off, with the chance on it rising maybe $50~75.

FWIW, I'm expecting some significant Protool price reductions from Festool Oz in the first promotion of 2014 - my guess is they'll have a fair residual inventory of orange stuff.

Thanks Kev for the quiet hint.

Just looked at your latest purchase on OZ website. I see it works on a rail,
'AND has excellent dust and chip extraction!!' [thumbs up]  [big grin]

Just picked it up - haven't installed the chain yet, but it does seem like a nice little bit of gear. Think it'll be quite good for fence posts, sleepers, etc. Can even visualise making a couple of saddles for cutting round posts of different sizes.

Every time I walk into my dealer to make the CMS+TS75 / CS70 final decision I end up buying a different Festool or Protool and fall back into saw table indecision. [tongue] [embarassed]

Oh well - that'll be my last Festool or Protool for 2013.

I feel your pain!

I was half way to a Kapex a while back and was side tracked by a Rotex 150. No regrets though as it is getting a bit of a work out lately.

Will be entering the video context - 1000 A$ Festool is not to be sneezed at !

Why are you hesitating over CS70? While my table saw (non Festool) is not getting the use it once was before I purchased a TS 55 REQ, it still is justifying its floor space. [smile]

The CS70 is quite old - if they brought out an update tomorrow I'd probably be straight in.

I've been toying with the idea of bigger toys ... Hammer table saw + spindle moulder, bandsaw, thicknesser/planer, DC. The bandsaw and the thicknesser are the real pivot points. If I get a decent bandsaw + DC, then the rest falls into place.

It's ironic that the CS70 full set and a OF2200 in a CMS/GE setup cost the same as the Hammer table saw + spindle moulder combo (converted to 1/2 router head for same price). If I had lots of space I wouldn't hesitate.

The other complication, that the majority of what I'll do on a table saw would be right angle rip cuts, just makes the decision even harder ... as a CMS+TS75 does that very well.

I'm running out of Festool "excuse tool" options and will need to take the final plunge in 2014.

Kev... i have seen the first 2014 promo Catalogue from Festool and there is NO Protool in it.

There are small price increases on the Systaniers and Sortainers. + We will be getting the Sys-Mft for $109 , the SYS Storage Box for $150
The new Vacs - Midi ($745) and Mini ($799)
But the existing models appear to have a slight price reduction.
And also the DRC18 will be available for $669

As far as I know the UK prices rise in January. I've just got in quick and ordered a kapex ug set

Seconded. Just jumped on a TS75 (shock purchase as I accidentally sold my old TS55 yesterday) and Domino 500 (after much deliberation) - I had a couple of vouchers burning a hole in my pocket and price increase was confirmed by my dealer to be January in the UK.

How do you accidentally sell a TS55?  [huh]

I was wondering the same thing...looking forward to an interesting story!

It's not interesting really, someone I worked with had been eyeing it up, the right kind of comment from me and bingo, deal's done. The accidental part was more that I found I needed a replacement sooner than I thought (Father-in-law's front door today). A comment on here regarding a TS75 over a TS55 if they re-bought kind of started the ball rolling.

I'd ended up with far too many rails for one person over the years too, so it was easier to sweeten his deal with a 1400 rail. We're both happy, and WOW that 75 packs a lot more kickback than the 55. I can see why it includes the kick-back stop, which is annoying as I have recently bought a couple for routing purposes.

I could dress the story up in a tutu if it makes it sound more interesting?

Sorry :o/

Here I was expecting a dangerous and seedy late night poker game ...
