Just curious how good the sound is on this unit.  I have a sirius boombox that I bring on site, but I'm on my second one in as many years since it's not really made for a jobsite.  Was thinking about making a Sirius Systainer (I have the spare parts...) but this looks like it might save me some time and effort.

This particular unit is satellite ready unlike its predecessor, and I can't stand normal radios on a jobsite.  Too much d-mn commercials and not enough music.

Thanks,

Jon

I have it.
i like it too, I havn't used sat radio though, just ipod, mp3 and radio
It's a heavy bugger, but I use it as my jobsite charger and radio.
Sorry I can't comment on the satellite radio, but it's a  very nice unit and the remote is the bomb!
When we go away for the weekend I take 2 fatpacks and party on. [big grin]

How heavy is it?  Thinking size and weight might be a determining factor, I only have so much space.

Thanks for the input

Jon

I do not have this model. but I have had all 3 variants of it's predecessor (4 units total). It is because of this (well not this) radio, that I will never again buy a tool from BOSCH. EVER! If that means I have to buy inferior tool of another brand, so be it.

My 4th and final radio crapped out a few weeks ago,... it will not be replaced with another. I am considering hi-jacking the carcass to do something with it as the charger and clock still work.

Honestly, it will probably just end up in the trash

Harry,

Can't you just build something really cool out of the 4 of them?  You probably have enough of what you need to make a good Betamax VCR.  [tongue]

well I got the first 3 replaced under warranty..... what an outright exercise in frustration that was!

I got the little Milwaukee one for free in a package deal a while ago and I like it.  Small, lightweight, battery pack or ac, hookup mp3 or I guess a little satellite reciever, am/fm, excellent sound.  That's just my suggestion as it's a lot less money.

The radio I'm referring to...

...and here

I just got it a few weeks ago. Luv it! The only strange thing is when you use a power tool on the same line or plugged into the radio it lowers in volume til u finish. Not lot but almost like a safety. awesome sound quality and fits right on top of my systainers

I got to say, I don't find the value in the radios made by tool companies. At $250... you should get much more than what they give you. Sound quality is not good and they are size of boom boxes that went away in the 1980s when big meant good/status ... that is no longer true!

A good radio today would be both digital and analog. It would  be small and give big sound.

Hmmm thinking I just found a niche market...LOL  [big grin]

Cheers,
Steve

I have the last one, and I hate it.

I think the battery charger went out, the outlets are nice, the radio reception was pathetic ( I tried all sorts of antenna's), it was durable ( I threw it off several roofs).

If you just want to listen to your ipod/phone/mp3 player, get one of those small dedicated one's that everyone makes a version of.

As far as job site type radio's, the little makita is a tough, small and great sounding radio.

I like the fact that this radio can take a beating.  But the price is a huge factor.  If I can score one off Craigslist I'll do it, but if not, I'm gonna have to find the time to out a satellite receiver in a systainer.

Jon

personally i dont see the point of these radios. they are insanly expensive.
for 250 -300 euro over here i could buy 25 of those small little ones that you can put in you pocket.
those tool brand ones only last a year or 2 at the most. you could buy a new one of the small ones every time they break (still havnt broke one yet after a year)

I use this for tunes:  Ryobi 18v radio

I have the prior model also, and it's worked perfectly fine for well over 3 years.  I got the newer one to keep in the basement part of my workshop.

Pros:  Cheap, tough, compact, digital tuning.  Runs for a lonnnng time on a battery charge.
Cons:  Ryobi batteries (I have a bunch); mono sound (if I use both its *almost* like stereo!)

Now, the big caveat:  I am not an audiophile, sound snob, or really even a music lover.  So perfect pitch quality and booming is not so important to me as simply having something to listen to.  I plug in my cheap and tiny 2gb MP3 player and its hours and hours of music, no commercials.

Damn the torpedoes, I'm going for it...

Gotta have satellite radio, gotta have the durability, gotta have good sound, and gotta have stacking ability.  Can't justify the 250.00.

Update. I used it today with out any issues. Plugged it in to the first outlet on my power strip and it was fine all day. Had it crankin while I was cutting away on the table saw and was still able to hear "Kasmir" otherwise I'd have to stop work for 7min 49 seconds ;)

Jon,

Are the holes usable for clamping?  [tongue]

How 'bout an inside view?

Ken, working on it...downfire subwoofer installed, but that's about it.  Gonna take a while.

Clamping, yup, its a workable, its a radio, no coffeemaker though

With all the systainer mods on here, I don't recall anyone trying to put together a small LCD tv on the underside of the lid and a video game system in the lower part of the systainer.  --- For break time only.  [wink]
