joraft said:I have had many, many shipments from Festool (maybe too many) and I've had only one incident of shipping damage.
The shipment was two Sysports, and when the truck arrived they were the only boxes in one of those super long semi-trailers (probably the end of the run). They were laying on their sides, and it was obvious that they had been sliding around inside the trailer. The boxes looked fine, so I accepted them. But, when I unpacked them I found that one had been hit so hard that the sides were buckled, so badly that it was actually about an inch shorter than it was supposed to be. Anyone who owns a Sysport knows how well they're built, so imagine how hard it must have been hit.
I called my dealer (Bob Marino) and he had a new Sysport shipped immediately, no questions asked. Later someone from Festool called to investigate exactly what had happened. After I told them what I had seen in the truck, they said both Sysports had left Lebanon strapped to a pallet, which would surely have prevented such damage. The trucking company took full responsibility, and came by several weeks later to pick up the damaged item. I hope they enjoyed their "customized" Sysport. ;D
The whole thing was handled so quickly, and so well by Bob and Festool, I don't remember even having a chance to get upset.
I've got a slightly modified sysport thanks to someone in the transport chain from Germany to France. The appalling quality of French transport and shipping (a next day air from the US can take a week) is one of the reasons why I buy so little stuff that I cannot actually put in my van and bring home. Fingers crossed I've got a Festool delivery from Germany to pick up from the post office tomorrow.
I have always been impressed with the shipping service in the US compared to here in France. I have had too many horrendous (or comical) experiences to list them all. The best was the cheese I brought back from England (Stilton) to give to my in-laws. They only live about an hour and a half away inParis but we didn't have time to go, so my wife sent a parcel from the local post office. Quite expensive- about 30 euros - (more than the cheese was worth) and supposed to get there in 48 hours max. Father in law kept ringing to say he hadn't received it, we kept pestering the tracking service - they had no trace. Nearly two weeks later the Post Office in the nearest town (about 5km from the village post office where the parcel was dispatched) rang to say they had a parcel that we had sent, could we come and collect it.
Mature cheese!
