Anybody had dodgy connections on plug-it cords?

I almost ruined a high gloss panel today because i think there is a loose connection in the plug it end of the cable.

I do have one sacrificial 16 GA plug it cord which I change every year or so before it shows any loose connectivity.  Also, I use inexpensive power strip that permanently inserted into CT vacuum power outlet. In this case I don't have reconnect Kapex, some routers etc.

I have had a dodgy connector on my ts55. One of the pins broke off inside the lead causing it to cut out.  I only had 2weeks left of the warranty left so all was good. I find the position of the socket on the 55 quite fiddly.  Definitely something festal should look at on the next model .  I feel it was this that caused it to break, wiggling it to get it connected.

Woodcut.

When I took a Festool end user class in the US, Rick showed us that it is easier to connect the cord to the TS55 when you tilt it to a bevel position before attaching the cord.  If your saw is properly calibrated, it should return to 90 degrees easily.

i agree it is awkward to get in. I also thing the dust port is bably designed, if it went straight back or even angles up a little then it wouldnt make the hose bind in the rail of work piece asmuch

I've had countless time when I have had to open my non festool tools to fix the connection. At least with the plug-it its a quick swap out if i ever run into trouble ( which I have not yet, touch wood ). Having to open up a tool on the work site is a pain in the bottom, and costs money in the long run.

the replacement for the ts55 will have a better extraction port it will be similar to the dewalt to allow the saw to be used on its side.

Dodgy connections are normal on cords. No cord lives forever. They get twisted and bend and at some point you break the copper thread inside. Plugs are also notorious. I've had failures with many power tools over the years and also once with a plug it connector. Had to replace the cord.

Use your left hand to connect the plug.

Trust me, this works perfectly.

This is a true statement. I'm left-handed and didn't notice it was hard until I tried the right-hand!  [laughing] Finally! Something that works easier on the left hand than on the right hand, that's a very rare experience...most of the time it's the other way around.

I had a RO150 catch on fire while a friend was using it. Cord connection must have been a little warn and I don't think he had it twisted all the way in.

Note to self...... never lend out tools to friends!

Ts55 I'm left handed so no problem.
Plug it cords eventuall wear out - since I always use the same ones. When they start dropping out or whatever I just grab a new one. I think it may be more complicated in the US as they aren't all the same??

We have two different ones in the US. The heavier gauge cord that comes with the  higher amp draw tools will fit all of the tools.
