Anyone going to the Festool morning UK ?

I charge more to fit an ikea kitchen, it might be cheaper but they are a pain in the arse to fit! You need to recess a void in the back of them as they dont have any room for services etc, im not keen on magnet either their integrated fridge towers can confuse, howdens are ok as you can always get what you want that day pretty much, i contract fit for this company now and their stuff is a dream to fit, quality carcasses, the push in blum euro hinges(the ones with the flap that lock the hinge to the door no screws),axiom tops, real wood veneered cornice and pelmets, im fitting a magnet kitchen at the mo and theres just so much more work in them, i guess ive been spoilt lately...

Are you talking about Howdens?

Cus howdens are a little out dated with their hinges and runners they  catching up now though.    I have fitted Homebase Ikeas and Howdens,  Ikea has the best hinges and runners of the lot.

Like you said them push fit hinges which require no screws on the door you just flip the level and the blum hinges just clip on to the door brilliant.  I have never done a Howdens Kitchen with them hinges.  The runners from Ikea where lovely to fit they have all the holes in the unit predrilled dead easy to fit draws.  Howdens budget the runners come pre fitted but they SUCK!  The upmarket runners you need to work out your self where the runners go and measure and drill the holes your self suck man.

Not long fitted a kitchen and the holes on the doors dont even align up with the holes on the blum hinges and I think the doors are designed for the older hinges (non clip on)  like I said they are catching up but slowly.

on the suject of hinges i prefer the clip on hinges with the integrated soft close rather than the clip on soft close, far better and neater

JMB, i just fitted a Howdens kitchen with the metal self close drawer runners.  The screw positions were marked on the carcases, not very well marked but small dimples were in the correct places.  I don't find the lack of the dimples on the hinges a problem as the screws are sharp enough to just drive straight in.  Well it is easy enough if you have the CXS that is  [poke]  [tongue]

Well yes and no,  I have used and removed hinges with built in integrated soft closer they where not blum brand ones though. They where rubbish they weren't very good at all.  I dont know what yours where but if you turn the hinge around you could see the soft close mechanism on the arm bit.  If your talking about the Blum Blue motion built in soft closers well I have never used them but they look MINT plus you can turn them on/off for doors with multiple hinges. I find a large door with 4 hinges only requires two soft closers working any more can make it to slow or hardly close at all well it did with these built in ones.

I have seen the little pin pricks markings on the units and some times they are non existent but any way.  They where no where near where I needed the draw runners to be.   I was fitting two Pan draws and a standard 140 deep draw in one one unit and on another unit the same again and I looked and looked and could not find any to be where I needed them to be.

About the dimples on the doors well its not cus they are lacking they are completely in the wrong place they were about 4mm out which would mean the hinges would be 4 mm on the angle.

Ikea have proper holes which allow the hinges to just drop in keeping them bang on square and all you do is flip the lever over and it tightens up no CXS required! Only for screwing the mounting plate on to the unit! Which is the only thing howdens have holes pe-drilled for you hahaa!

Im going back to the kitchen im talking about next weekend ill take some pictures of the hinge markings im talking about being miles out.

Howdens soft close tandem draw runners are defiantly not as good as Ikea or homebase.   With the Howdens ones you have to screw the bottoms to the sides to stop them from opening up till you put the fronts on.  Well with Ikea and Homebase they have grooves in the bottoms and the Tandem boxes have a lip which goes into them so again no CXS required only for the runners on the unit with pre drilled holes for you quick and easy!

I think if Ikea and Howdens came together and you took the best bits from Ikea and from Howdens you would have a perfect kitchen company.

Saw this on the site!  Didnt know who made them but  I do now!

http://www.handles4doors.co.uk/Kitchen-Cabinet-Cupboard-Fittings/Cabinet-Hinges-Fittings/sc863/p24331.aspx

Have you fitted these before?  Man  I have they are Crap! First time I fitted them I close the door before checking if the magnet would pull the clip open well it didnt!  took me ages to try and get the door open again!

You end up drilling do close to the front of the door that you have to leave just the veneer face as the magnet is not powerfull enough!

They suck!

Woodguy, I have to agree the Cxs is fantastic for kitchens it's become my favourite tool at the mo (maybe until i finally get my kapex), Jmb the company I fit for is called castles kitchens based in Plymouth, another great manufacturer of very good screws and kitchen hardware (hinges etc) is winzer Wurth, I get all my fixings from them every few months, l brackets and stuff, the rep comes to see me now and then on site.
