Hi, I am planning to buy a nice present for a friend of mine, who has helped me out with a paid for project (I am by no means a pro, but sometimes do get commissions). I was thinking of buying him a belt sharpener. The Sorby Pro Edge seems to be the best such machine out there. But I spoke to someone who was very positive about the Axminster offering. He thought it was even better than the Sorby machine. Has anyone of you used the Axminster? What is your opinion of the machine?
Any insights are welcome. The difference in cost isn't that significant, so I'd like to buy the best of the two to show my appreciation. He will be using it mostly to flatten and sharpen chisels and plane irons. He does not do turning or carving. Maybe some kitchen knives, but that'll be it.
