Anyone used the 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee?

I’ve been holding off on buying Festool because of the price tag, but I’m finally tempted to try their Domino + dust extractor. I see they offer a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Has anyone here bought something with the mindset of 'I'll just try it and return it,' but actually ended up keeping it? Or if you did use the guarantee, was it a hassle? Curious if it’s a legit way to test the waters.

Oh, but on topic, as Michael stated, go to a local dealer vs online if you even think you may return it. It isn't like online retailers give a discount unless you find one that doesn't do the tax.

My local Woodcraft used to have an MFT/3 setup with a couple sanders and a Domino for people to actually try out. I think the other tools were available, too. Worth asking a local dealer if you can try it out in the store.

I don't know if I can recall ever hearing of anyone returning a Domino after trying it?

It's probably one of the top few gateway drugs into the Festool'o'sphere, resistance is futile.

A friend of mine bought the OF 1400 about 18 months ago, then decided he wanted the Shaper Origin, and then decided that he didn't need two routers (silly man), so he returned the 1400 and got the Origin. Fast forward a year and he realizes he could use the 1400. Now, he has both.

But the point is that he bought the 1400 and returned it within the 30 days and it was easy peasy. No hassle. However, we get our Festool from our local dealer - and after hearing a story here about someone trying to return a tool from an online dealer under the 30 Day Guarantee - that person had to pay shipping back to the dealer (I think it was a KS120, so it was pricey).

Your best bet is to buy the tool from your local dealer. Best thing is that online dealers can't really offer you a better price (maybe a free t-shirt), and your local dealer will probably offer better and personal service.

Ah, yes, the great Festool discount hack: return it within 30 days then wait for it to show up on Recon

Just to clarify, my friend also bought the "second" 1400 new at our dealer. Though, I wonder if the hack might be oo risky. Return, wait for Recon and then someone else snaps it up - doh!
Could work if you plan ahead. I’ve never tried it but almost did something similar on Amazon thinking of their returns outlet, Warehouse or whatever it’s called now.

Only once. I bought the Domino XL and found that the fence was out of alignment. I bought it through a Woodcraft store, returned it to that store, and walked out with a new Domino. It's a great warranty.

I never bought a tool I thought I might return.

+1.

Any tools or machines that I have ever bought and returned -- online or from a store -- must be due to some kind of issue with the products (missing parts, defective, etc.), regardless of brands or prices or return policies.

If I really want or need to try something new before I decide whether or not to buy it, I'd do it at the showroom or store where it is sold.
