At the beginning of this thread, I pointed out what seemed to be a new pricing policy in the UK, and a rise in price for some items. jonny round boy then gave an interesting comparison of three tools:
Example 1: Kapex KS120 EB GB - an increase of just under 9%, or 70GBP
Example 2: Trion PS300 EQ-Plus GB - a reduction of 17GBP, or just under 8%.
Example 3: TS55 EBQ-Plus-GB - no change.
The new
2008 UK price list is now available, and I have been able to compare it with the 2007 edition in more detail.
Festool order numbers in the 500,000 series are usually complete power tools (eg jigsaws, routers, dust extractors etc), whilst items in the 400,000 series are usually non-power tools (eg router bits, MFTs, Systainers, drill bits, extension fences, sandpaper etc). This is important, as the price change affects each group differently.
Items in the power tool range which have decreased in price are the jigsaws which have gone down by about 7%, the OF1010 routers which have gone down by about 6%, and the EHL65 hand-held planers which have gone down by about 5%.
Of the power tools which have gone up in price, the largest increases have been the Kapex at about 9%, the belt sander module for the CMS (570249) at about 15%, the ETS 125 range of sanders at 6-10%, the OF 2000 routers at 8-13%, and the OFK 500 and OFK 700 routers at 8-9%.
A large proportion of power tools have not changed in price, or have only suffered increases of less than 3%, so the overall increase across the power tool range is only about 2.5%, which to my mind is quite reasonable.
However, what came as a big shock was the large increase in price of most of the items in the 400,000 non-power tool range - 75% of items had jumped by 25%-60%!
Here are some examples:
494839 STF-D125/90-P500-TI2/100 (Titan, 500 grit, 125mm sanding disks, pack of 100) - old price 17.58 GBP incl VAT, new price 40.54 GBP incl VAT (increase of 131%)
492374 STF-D125/0-S500 PL2/15 (Platin 2, 500 grit, 125mm sanding disks, pack of 15) - old price 15.75, new price 25.67 (increase of 63%)
491131 HW S8 D42/R6 0 (8mm shank, 6mm radius roundover router bit) - old price 44.53, new price 55.70 (increase of 25%)
456737 Longlife-FIS-CT 22 0 (Longlife filter bag for CT22) - old price 72.29, new price 99.76 (increase of 38%)
490293 DD-AS (FastFix right-angle chuck) - old price 49.35, new price 65.21 (increase of 32%)
Since the average price increase of power tools is only about 2.5%, whilst 75% of accessories have increased from 25% to 60%, it now makes even more sense to buy accessories with the power tool as part of a set, rather than buying the basic tool first, and than buying the accessories later. Examples might be the right-angle chuck for the C12, or an extension fence for a CS 50 Precisio trimming saw.
Quite a lot of UK Festool dealers seem to be still selling items at the old prices, but I am seeing more and more adverts on eBay for items at the new price, so it does pay to shop around at the moment.
