Has any one used an APS 900 worktop joining gig?
If so what are the pros & cons of one

I've not used one personally, but I've seen and handled one. It's very well made, but pricey.

The biggest disadvantage is that it's European-style, in that it is designed to be used with a 30mm copy ring, but a 14mm bit, not 1/2". That means cheap, disposeable cutters are not available to you.

If you always cut really good quality worktops, then it may be worthwhile getting the Festool 14mm replaceable bit cutter. If you're cutting cheap crappy worktops then you'll wreck the blades in no time. Doesn't matter how good the cutter is if the chipboard has scrap metal in it!

@meatman: Did you get the APS 900?

I'm considering it too and have see a couple of vids on youtube where they use it. Seems simple to use and solid made. CMT also make one that's about half the price but I like the fact that you get the MFS-VP 1000 profile included in the set. I imagine I could find some stand-alone uses for that.

The APS 900 is the best worktop jig I have used . It is adjustable on female cut by the mm and can produce cut that would be difficult if not impossible with other jigs.(you can join double post formed work tops into standard worktops, rather than the other way round ie breakfast bars into the face of a standard worktop , not standard tops into both faces of the breakfast bar.) It is very heavy duty and bang on accurate. The price of the festool 14mm cutter and replacement blades is stupid, so dont get one. Wealdon tools do a verso fix 14mm replacement blade cutter at a fraction of the price. You should be able to get about 7full joints per edge. I have some pics on her somewhere.

What are you talking about? I've seen pictures, but can' figure out how it works. This is NAINA accessory.

Thank you,

Thanks for all the advice, I have put one on order with my dealer on a sale or return basis
I will take the advise about the 14mm cutter

Trend also makes one. More or less the same idea, although I have never used one.

I already have a Trend jig but it's about 20 years old now
It's cast aluminium and comes with a male, female and bolt hole plates and comes in a plywood box
Any one looking for an old Trend jig?

Meatman,

I am sure you will get on well with it. I bought an extra dogbone template for it . Makes life easier and quicker, if you use 3 bolts per joint.

John

By the way set the jig up around 210/220mm on the rail.
