Arbortech Turboplane not man enough for you?

I for one haven't tried it, but it just doesn't sound right to me.

I have the other two sawdust makers, this one might be useful...or lethal.

Arbortech try really hard to produce ... ummm ... sawdust, massive and uncontrolled clouds of sawdust !!

...

They're actually quite innovative, but I think you need to be a bearded woodturner to really appreciate them [big grin]

Looking for something more lethal to stick into an angle grinder?

Wait no more.

Don't suppose anyone's tried one yet?

Oh good, looks like they've started production. It turns out that I won one of these from Arbortech in their contest to name their next tool, so I should be getting mine shortly.  First project to try it out will be some carved skull placards for my kids' clubhouse.  Arbortech makes some great products for fast, controlled sculpting of wood.  I have their Turboplane and their mini contour sander that I mount on my variable speed Metabo grinder.

I do exactly the same. I can't imagine any one of their products in a non variable speed grinder.

I have both the regular size Turboplane and the mini. But not this new iteration. One thing I will say is that the allen head screws which hold the blades can become impacted in the cutter making removing them very tough without stripping them etc. Otherwise, the quality seems to be fine.

When I saw how small the allen screws are, i thought "There is trouble."
I like the idea over all, but i can see a problem, maybe even with first time use, with such a small allen screw coming in contact with even dry well seasoned wood.

I have been thinking of getting a mini turbo plane for a couple of years.  I have a stump of yew with three or four branch knobs that I want to make a deep bowl out of.  I don't have a lathe so I have been thinking that might be the tool to use.

I am sure the piles of dust will be huge when and if i tackle that yew, but working on a lathe wood be just as much.

I have the 100mm arbortech turboplane.  Used it on a chair seat scoop  recently.
Very aggressive  and fast.  Like a spindle moulder (shaper) freehand.
And not dusty  as  large chips are  being removed.

Yeah, the smaller more aggressive one makes smaller chips than the turboplane, but not really dusty. Still bonkers though.
