Are Systainers waterproof?

I generally transport my tools/systainers in the back of my extended cab.  However, I have to travel a fair distance without room inside.  They will be in the back of the truck and it looks like rain in the forecast.  Do I need extra protection or will the systainers keep the rain out?

They will keep the rain out, no problem. When I read your question and the word 'waterproof', I thought, heck no they're not, you can't submerge them, but for protection against rain they're just fine.

If you have any Sortainers in the mix , those will need a cover to keep water from getting in through the front and back spaces around the drawers.

This question came up on another forum.  I tested mine by spraying water from a hose from above.  Result:  No water inside.  Sprayed diagonally from above like a driving rain.  Result:  Some water inside.

Thanks for the quick replys.  Most will be down where any driving rain would miss them.  It will be tough packing - which ones go to the outside and which in the middle for more protection?  The Domino is definitely in the middle!

Someone was working on using sunbrella canvass to make slip on covers for stacks.  The poster never got back about how it worked out though.

I can say from [bad] experience that the sortainers (drawers) are NOT water-resistant.  If you think any amount of water might build up in the cab, don't put those on the bottom.

The systainers don't seem to let water in if submersed as long as the water does not reach the crack where the lid is; once it reaches that point I wouldn't trust them at all.

Should be fine against a light rain though, I would think -- at least as much as any other unsealed plastic case would be?

Regardless, how hard would it be to throw a tarp or something over them?

Also, I'd be more concerned about them getting *stolen* from the truck while you are stopped somewhere...

Put them in plastic garbage bags ... Helps hide them too.
