Systainer Changed color

If I look at used prices for Systainers you might just consider selling them.

I have a few classic ones that are yellowed a bit too. I think it's mostly the sun-exposed ones or the ones closest to the TL lighting. By now there is more external shading, the place of the Systainer sit has changed and the TL lights were changed to LED.

But how fast yours have shifted color there must be something else going on. Chemistry wasn't my strong side, but what I read all reads rather plausible.

This is my SYS-MFT, it’s pretty yellowed and you can see that the top and under the latch is not. The TS55EQ has a little yellowing but not too heavy. The other T-Locs I have do not have this yellowing

I’ve also got a few Classics. The Tanos ones are very white (they may not look like it because of the lighting) and the Festool ones range. One of them has the weakened latches.

@onocoffee That SYS-MFT is insane!

Did you let off a nearby nuke for it to go so yellow when it's the recent 100 year release?
Ha! I replaced the original latch with the SYS3 100th version since the original was also very yellowed!
I thought it was 100 years old, so the color seems appropriate.
I think it was actually uncovered at some ruins in Wendlingen...

The worst I ever saw, before that MFT, was the classic that held the old TS75. The one the shop owned before the fire, was also the oldest Systainer I recall seeing too. I just assumed that it was age in general. That saw was always stored in an interior storeroom, except for the few times I used it.

I had some classics that had some of this when i bought them on wicked sale.

If you want to get rid of it, take some of the peroxide solution they sell at hair dresser places, liberally get it all over the yellowed plastic, put some clear plastic wrap over it (to stop the peroxide from drying to fast) and list it sit out in the sun for a couple hours. It took the yellow away.

It worked fine on some systainers for me that i didn't bother with plastic wrap because I ran out, but just leaves a white crusty residue you have to rinse off (not too different from when its liquidy still)

That will deal with the color shift, but if the resin has suffered structurally, that is not a fix.

I have Systainers in all shades, these are mainly old ones which don't get used anymore.

I don't mind a bit of discolouration but the nicotine yellow isn't a great look (they are 20+ years old).

But still fine behind the latches

There are UV stable resins. I am sure that they cost more than the conventional versions. But Festool is selling a premium product. The problem is that by the time it changes color, it is pretty old and most people think, “They are no longer responsible.” A campaign where customers complain about the color shift and include images like this, might convince them to upgrade the resin.

Of course, they might already be paying for the upgraded resin and the molder is cheating them. It is an easy fix for Festool. All they have to do is pick up their phone and say, “Hey, injection molder, use a better grade of resin!”

(I will never understand the “upgraded” spell checker which is augmented by A.I. My properly spelled “injection molder” was auto-corrected to “oblivion molder”). Is there a way to go back to the older “stupid” version spell checker?)

I don't know the machinations behind the scenes. I can only expect that Festool, being a quality-oriented company, would make corrections to their materials as old versions age and either yellow (like the Classics and T-Locs) or just disintegrate when a Bauer user sneers at it (as in the case of those old CT 22s). The SYS3 Systainers and CT MIDI I seems like they have improved plastics (not that I know what to look for), but I guess we'll be able to gnash our teeth at them or revel in our brilliance, around 2038.
