Are the domino connectors overall installed in the same way as standard dominos?

I'm building a twin bed for our guest room and was initially thinking of building the frame out of standard dominos (DF 700). It'll fit through the door assembled (barely) and we don't ever plan on moving, but then I was thinking... maybe it'd be nice to have the option of dismantling it? I didn't really want to use this as the project to learn the domino connector system on, but it's looking like I might.

Overall, are the mortises for the connectors made/measured the same way as the standard dominos? Like, conceptually, if I'm proficient at using regular dominos, will I have much of a learning curve to wrestle with switching to the connector system?

If you can install Dominos you can install the Domino Connectors. You do need the kit for drilling the access holes for the set screws.

The SV-SYS D14 connectors for the 700 are very straight forward. Just decide the number of holes and where you want them.

The beauty of the kit for the 700 is that it uses the Domino and 14mm mortises; the 500 uses the separate drill bit for the access holes.

It was a well written, well photographed Domino application reference book that Festool produced about 2 years ago for each large distributor, this one was at the local Woodcraft store. It was nice to glance through and see the various Domino applications for the DF 500 & DF 700. I believe there were 90+ pages to it illustrating every application you could think of, from window frames to furniture. Here's 2 pages of the entry door section.

Unfortunately, it walked out of the store within 6 months. [sad]

I built a king size bed using the 700 connectors. It has held up perfectly over many years.
My suggestion is to read the instructions several times and practice on scrap of the same dimensions as your real lumber. I found it helpful to denote exactly what is to be done at each joint using blue tape and a marker pen. It’s easy to screw up with the connectors.  Precision is key. There isn’t much room for error or sloppiness. I used one connector and one solid tenon at each joint. On assembly, I tapped the joint together leaving about 1/4” for the connector to take up.

I believe the only ring bound manual/book from Festool is the one for the Conturo, Perfect Edge. Unmatched. The book I have for the Domino from Festool, The perfect connection, is a spine bound manual/book.
