Sorry for not responding sooner.

We host our DNS through GoDaddy which happened to be under a large scale DDOS attack today. It affected millions of sites.

All of the sites were up the entire time but may have been accessible by various users at certain times. We do not host our websites with GoDaddy, just the DNS.

GoDaddy apparently moved it's DNS to Verisign.

While one of the theories is it was an external attack, it could also be an internal problem.

FWIW I moved my domain registrations off GoDaddy last year because of the SOPA thing.

You might check out OpenDNS.com - really great service.  Excellent for home as well since it includes content filtering for free.

Earlier today they said Anonymous claimed the attack was theirs and it's due to SOPA support.  I also dropped GoDaddy because of the SOPA thing.  It's an interesting law that initial backers are more protected than others.  +1 for Anonymous.

People sometimes claim things that they aren't actually capable of.

Stories today are saying GoDaddy is admitting it was an internal problem. In my opinion that's an even stronger reason to keep clear of these guys.
