So the Baltimore wood show starts tomorrow any FOG members going?

January 4-6, 2013

Friday 12-6; Saturday 10-6; Sunday 10-4

Maryland State Fairgrounds Cow Palace
Cow Palace 2200 York Road
Timonium, Maryland 21093

My dealer that is there informed me about it. I probably won't make it down, I have my sons birthday party on Sunday to get ready for.

At the booth with our favorite goodies, they were selling an installers kit for $40 off. I sighed and caressed it, but in the end I walked away since too much of the price is in small or large Torx, Posidrive and Phillips bits that I would hardly ever use. [sad]

They mentioned something about an Uber house for Festool. Is that an independent operation or a part of Festool USA?

I drooled over it too. In the end I just couldn't spend the money... Unfortunately.

It was a small show this year. I'm sure the end will be near. I noticed the Show isn't going to the west coast this year. I also noticed Sommerfeldm wasn't there this year. They are always there. At least for the paste 9 or so years.

I also drooled over the green stuff.  I've purchased Festool stuff from Capital in the past. They are a pleasure to deal with. I'm looking forward to their Ubershop. It was also nice to meet the new regional rep. I miss Jordan, but I'm sure this new guy will get up to speed soon and convince me I need more Festool. Jordan had a knack for getting me to buy stuff I didn't really need  [tongue]

I walked out without any Festool but I finally bit the bullet and purchased a Noden bench. I'll put it together next weekend since they were out of the casters. Besides it gave me an excuse to finish my wife's craft room today.

You'll have to let me know how you like it. I've thought about getting one since I saw them on this old house, but I've never bit the bullet. It was really cool to get to try one out at the show though. I was shocked at how stable the bench was! Now did you get one with dog holes and the vices?

Ditto.
I met the guys from Capital at the Remodeling Show back in October. They spent a good amount of time with me, multiple times over three days, answering questions and letting me try out all the tools. I live north of Philly but while I was visiting my inlaws near Baltimore over the holidays I stopped buy and talked tools with Jamie for over an hour. Surely someone I will do business with in the future.

I'm an instant gratification type of guy and they only had the solid top with no holes. I went with the 6' top and I guess I'll add some holes and a vise and try it out. If it works I'll leave it alone, if not, I'll make my own top. The Noden will replace two old MFTs that I have. Now I'll have a total of 4 MFTs, which will come in handy when I'm assembling large projects. I'll let you know how it goes once I have everything set up.

So how did Baltimore area do in the current snow storm? I will not be making it down to the show today due to a load of snow shoveling to do. I may try for Saturday or Sunday.

The main issue for the near future is whether to buy another Festool or a snow blower. I have one idea, girlfriend has another. If you see a headline about, man found with snow shovel embedded in his ..., I will have made the wrong decision.

We wound up with around 4". It's been worse honestly, it didn't take to long to shovel out. I plan on going today, I just bought a Sawstop for myself for Christmas and want to snag a couple of blades and maybe a few accessories... Obviously the snow blower isn't high on my list haha.

I may go sometime over the weekend.  Not sure as I just bought the 12" Bosch glide miter saw, so don't really need to spend any more on the shop right now.  Strange that it's been mentioned so much, but the Noden was one thing I was hoping to take a look at.  I was also interested in what the show deal on the new Kreg jig was.  Usually they are full price but you get a bunch of extras.  Let me know, it might make the go/nogo decision for me.  Also, any deals on K-body Revos?

I have actually decided to skip the show this year.  After taking into account the gas and admission ticket, I'm using the $35 to purchase tools on the Internet.  Beats the 1.5 hour drive each way and the usual disappointment of not finding anything worth purchasing.  I did purchase the Noden bench last year and I'm still happy with it.  I attached a Jorgensen clamp and drilled 4 rows of 3/4" holes using my LR32.  It's the perfect bench for my shop and I would purchase it again in a heart beat.

Please let us know if there are any big deals at the show this year.  I took advantage of the Amazon Bessey clamp sale a few months back and Custom Service Hardware just had a 25% discount on a ton of things including all their Kreg jigs.  You can't beat a Kreg Foreman for $600 and $25 shipping.

I had a good time today and am going back tomorrow. Noden was set up there, I was actually given a adjustabench two birthdays ago so I didn't spend much time I the booth. I picked up the centrotec installers set from capital. They were set up there with all the Festool goodies you could want, and they saw me comming lol. As far as deals go... I can't say I saw too much. Peachtree had a airshield pro -$100, and there were some books and plans that were pretty good buys from Amazon prices.

Thanks for the update.  Was Sommerfeld at the show?  They didn't make it last year and I don't see their name on any of the Woodworking Show advertisements.  I've been slowly getting stuff online today and the fact I don't have to pay Maryland taxes is a nice plus.  Although, I do enjoy the smell of fresh cut wood and woodworking tools all around.
