Banner ads

I know there are some people here that are really good with computers, so I figured I'd ask here.

Banner ads are driving me nuts on a lot of the websites I visit. Lately, sites like Woodnet are throwing ads my way that are basically soft porn. Not that I have that much of a problem looking at women that are, well, you know...  Its not the point though. I don't go to a woodworking site to look at those pictures and I don't want it shoved down my throat.

Anyone know a banner ad blocker that is free, works, and is easy for a computer nitwit like myself to use?

Do you use IE or Firefox? Friefox has a built in blocker but I use ad block plus as well

I use the ad block plus plug-in for firefox.

I didn't even know Woodnet had ads on it to give you an idea of how well it works.

Good Morning Lou,  all Trev and I use is Firefox.  Solid blocking capabilities...I can't remember the last time an ad has popped up on me.  I too enjoy a bit of soft porn....soft-wood or tool porn that is  ;D

When you get it installed, go to the menu bar: toolsptions:content:and then click the first four squares for "block pop-up windows"  "load images automatically" "enable java scrip" "enable java"  Do yourself a favor and check out the other tabs...it is very user friendly.

Mozilla Firefox is a pretty common browser.  Nearly 32% of our sites visitors are using Firefox.

I second the motion for using Adblock and Firefox.  I check for spyware once a month or so and never have any.  Adblock allows you to selectively block portions of a site so that you can get the javascript menus to work but the banner ads don't.  Best of the best.  My wife thinks I'm slightly paranoid, but I don't EVER have to deal with banner ads or popups.
